Can you hear me?
The wind swirled around the low trees and shrubs as the two appeared out of thin air, their hair tousled and messy, clothes crumpled. One of them had a dark smudge of dirt on a flawless cheek.
He gasped for breath, lungs collapsing as the travel put strain on his body- even after all this time, he still wasn’t used to. He stumbled and fell to one knee, hand grasping his chest to somehow grab the invisible force choking him.
It was futile. But he knew it would pass; it always did.
Can you feel my hushed words brush against your keen little ear?
The bleach blond haired man stood silently to the side, stance somewhat awkward, not quite sure what to do. He was relatively unaffected. He had brought them here; wherever ‘here’ was.
After a few moments, the pale man stood, absently running a palm against the short dark brown hair, breath still labored. He glanced at his partner.
“I hate you Jaejoong.” He said absently, before turning his gaze to their surroundings. The older man just smiled and did the same. His vision was still a little hazy; he wasn’t quite sure where they were. “How come you didn’t have a set destination before we teleported? And where are Yunho and Changmin? They were right beside us after-“ He was silent, then, and Jaejoong understood. They had endured the most painful moment of their lives; he wondered why he was not still shaking with rage- maybe the unexpected trip had zapped all of this energy.
Can you see me reaching towards you?
“Junsu.” His arm wound around the younger man’s waist, who turned to face him, to accept his offer of comfort as he buried his face into his strong shoulder, arms coming up to encircle Jajeoong’s neck.
The older man held him, like comforting a little brother that had just lost his favorite stuffed bunny. Junsu wouldn’t cry- not yet. He couldn’t. He had a promise to keep.
Junsu sighed and pulled back, too quickly for Jaejoong to like, but they had a job to do. He looked around once more.
“We’re in the park by the apartment.” They both could hear children’s laughter beyond the tree line, and the small field they were standing in was high with weeds and brush. A gravel walkway could barely be made out a few feet away. Jaejoong led the way as Junsu followed, thankful to be somewhere they were familiar with.
The brown haired man frowned deeply and walked over to a certain tree.
“This isn’t right-“ He studied it and looked back at the path, before gazing at the tree once more. “This is our tree. I carved our initials on it.” He ignored Jaejoong’s breathy chuckle. “We had taken a walk on our first anniversary, late at night, to not alert the manager. I brought my pocket knife- I know this is the tree I carved on.” He sighed heavily before resting his weight against the chipped bark. This didn’t make any sense.
He heard the crunch of gravel and lifted his gaze, looking over Jaejoong’s shoulder.
His eyes widened as he took in the familiar silhouette, throat closing up as deep emotions overpowered his need to breath. His slim body trembled terribly, but this time, there was no wind.
“Junsu?” Jaejoong questioned, brows furrowed in confusion. He felt a change in the air, the absolute pain in Junsu’s eyes evident.
“Y-Yoochun.” He whispered- his voice was cold as ice, full of fear and longing and pure confusion.
Did you come to save me?
