Figure Skating

Due to timezones and overlapping schedules (and my flighty nature), I managed to watch bits and pieces of both US Nats and Euros but full competitions of neither. So I have no way of judging performance objectively. This post is mostly nonsense babble, therefore, where I refer to my favourite skaters by their first names, as if they were my best friends. Um.

:((( ADAM! It was a real blow to wake up on Saturday and hear that Adam Rippon flamed out in his short program. I had such hopes... and so did everyone else... and that pressure to be The Next Big Thing really seems to have crushed Adam this season. :( I hope he ekes out a decent skate this afternoon and then comes back for a better next season. Sigh.

(Nats have only made me remember that Brian Orser is by far my favourite person in FS. Doing Christina Gao's spiral along with her during her SP? Adorbs!)

It's craaaazy that RyBrad is first after the SP and I will be fucking thrilled if he wins outright. I think it will probably be Jeremy, though.

I have no thoughts on Pairs, but Yankowskas and Coughlin really were wonderful.

Meryl and Charlie just took my breath away. They have such swagger to them this season. You'd think being the out-and-out favourites might make them complacent, but it seems like the opposite has happened. I still wish they had more romantic chemistry, but if they continue killing it in the fashion of their Free Dance, I think I might even get over that. (Also, Charlie: finally, your hair + grooming situation is looking much improved. *phew*)

I can never get too excited about the US Ladies and I wasn't about to stay up to 4am to watch their LP, but (in stark contrast to Euros) there was some lovely skating going on from all the frontrunners in the SP. Alissa Czisny really has had a fairytale season, hasn't she? Wow. I love a comeback kid.

The Ladies' LP at Euros was a bit of a shitstorm, which only made Sarah Meier's triumphant perfomance seem even more amazing. I'm sad that Ksenia was bumped off the podium, though.

Such an incredible relief to see Joubert put in an honest-to-god good performance in the Men's LP. And Florent was just magical. Frenchies! Hugging gifs!
