OH. This is what I meant to link to! Via metafandom, a race-in-fandom post, which is interesting in itself, but what's more interesting still is the list in the comments of non-white actors who play white characters. I knew Kristin Kreuk is half-Chinese (I remember reading an interview a long time ago where she said she had to completely keep out of the sun for months in order to play Snow White. WOW. :/), but I had no idea that Wentworth Miller is half-black or that Adrian Pasdar is middle-eastern. Apparently we like our characters to look pleasingly exotic, but we want to claim 'em as white. Pretty shocking, really.
P.S. Unrelatedly! I am so pathetically into Sky's airings of Project Runway season two. Pathetic because I watched the season obsessively when it was on Bravo (and I was in the US) and I have watched it since, because I have almost every episode on CD-R. :/ Why exactly do I feel the need to watch it AGAIN? The answer, obviously, is that it is SO GOOD OMG. My favourite season of my favourite reality show. *draws tiny hearts around it*
And I am still bitter than Nick got eliminated. Because, okay, the outfit he made for Daniel did make him look like a woman--but a very attractive woman. ANDROGYNY FTW!
Sigh. My tinhat for Daniel/Nick is still in tact. They are so clearly in love. *flaily hands*
