finger on the pulse, that's me.

Right. I am going to pointlessly upload my favourite songs by The Libertines/Babyshambles/Dirty Pretty Things. Pointless because you were probably really into the Libertines five years ago, along with the rest of the world, and/or, you weren't really into them (again, past tense), because they're basically the British version of The Strokes and who the fuck cares? and/or, you think Pete Doherty's a lunatic who steals giant turtles. Nonetheless! When you've listened to 'You're My Waterloo' as many times as I have this week, you feel the need to flail a little.

Also: it's a slow Sunday. SLOW. *little flail!* \o?

The Libertines - You're My Waterloo
So, it turns out, my favourite incarnation of the Libs is the c.2001 version that included a CELLIST. All bands should include a cellist, omg.

The Libertines - Music When the Lights Go Out
My favourite Libs songs are still those that are folksy and old-sounding. LOVE.

The Libertines - I Get Along
This is such a classic. Despite my fondness for folk, there's an itch that just can't be scratched by anything except short, fast and loud songs. Also, "people tell me I'm wrong? fuck 'em!" is TRUFAX. *sage*

The Libertines - Time For Heroes
The first line of this song somehow incites a spasm of intense excitement in me. *spasms!*

The Libertines - Arbeit Macht Frei
I can't explain the genius of this song (maybe if I bought into the whole punk ethos, I could, hmmm), but there's something strangely glorious about Pete/Carl screaming ARBEIT MACHT FREI in their little mockney accents.

The Libertines - Dilly Boys
Hands on hips! Pouts on lips!

Dirty Pretty Things - You Fucking Love It
I do fucking love it, Carl Barât. (Possibly my favourite of all the shortfast&loud songs!)

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
If you take emo to mean ripping open your chest and allowing your heart and guts to come spilling out in song form (which I do), this is the most emo song in the wooorld. :/

The Libertines - What Katie Did
I love alternative songs that have "doo doo doo, sha la la" parts and on one level sound like kitschy '50s pop songs, but in content are completely different.

Babyshambles - I Wish
Pop music with a dark undertow. That's my musical kink right there. This is such a perfect slice of pop, yet contains the lyric, "I wish to God that I'd just been stabbed..."

The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into the Sun
The Libertines are such a chaotic band that I honestly find it astonishing that they can occasionally churn out pop perfection like this.

Wolfman f/ Pete Doherty - For Lovers
This song is so amazingly, transcendently beautiful that I must admit I blink a little at how it ever surfaced from the car crash that is Pete's life. (I really do think this song is transcendent. I'm not being ironic. :/ It reminds me of a Philip Larkin poem. Sigh.)

The zip file: libs.zip (to download: "music" + "igetalong")

For the record, my interest in Pete/Carl was truly piqued when I read about how they went somewhere secluded in Wales to write material for their second album. Carl locked himself in the bathroom, beat the shit out of himself, and everyone assumed Pete had done it.

I love that, by default, Carl is considered the sane one. BWAH.

Right. I'm gonna go back to obsessing over boysinbands that are sliiightly less self-destructive, or at least, hide it better. >_>
