Thanks to
ashiva's pimping, I watched the first episode of Dexter (the new Showtime series, starring Michael C. Hall, about a "nice" sociopath who only kills bad people -- HEH!). It was... okay. Same kind of trashy-but-good vibe as 'Nip/Tuck' (let's face it, HBO original shows are better). I think I will keep watching, simply because of the cast. DAVID! *clings* Also: Julie Benz! aand, Gloria Nathan from OZ! (I liked the wacky stepsister lots, also.)
I suppose comparison to
Profit is inevitable, and I can't help but feel that Dexter owes a serious debt to that show. They even have the same sinister-funny, deadpan voiceovers. To paraphrase, "Making out with Darla was interesting. I wonder what that feeling was." Heh.
The thing is, the backdrop of big business was (IMO) what made Profit particularly interesting. (Plus, y'know, incest. Shut up, I have my kinks, you have yours.) While Dexter's setting in police/forensics feels boring and tired to me at this point.
Speculation: I'd love to see the wacky stepsister become complicit in Dexter's murders, ala Jim and Gail's comedy alliance in Profit. Also: faux-cest never hurt a show! ... what? Lost, you say? Veronica Mars? SHUT UP! Faux-cest is awesome!
