So here I am holding her hand as we walk down the street under the moonlight. I sneak quick glances at her here and there, she doesn’t notice and I smile at her excitement of how the moonlight casts amazing shadows. We continue walking down the winding road, we have no idea where it leads to, but we just keep walking.

I see some guys ahead of us and I start to worry because they look kind of sketchy, she squeezes my hand tighter and I know exactly how she is feeling. We turn and start to walk in the opposite direction but one of the guys spot us. He yells to us, “Hey girls, a bit lost are we?” and then he laughs. I don’t like this feeling and I start to walk a little faster. She tries to keep up and we lose our grip on each other.

I stop and turn around, “You have to keep up, he is following us,” I tell her, as she slightly turns to see the man following us. She walks faster and is now at the same pace with me. Once again I grab a hold of her hand.

He is getting closer and closer and I start to panic even more and I can feel her tremble. He catches up to us and grabs me. “Hey girls, didn’t you hear me shouting at you, I just want to help you home,” he smirked.

“No thanks, w…we can…can find our o…own way home t…thanks,” I hear myself stutter at him.

“But you don’t know who you could run into out here,” this time he lets out a laugh.

He turns to the trembling figure next to me. “Oh I get it, you two are little dykes, I like me some dykes,” he says, taking one hand off me and grabbing her.

“Leave her alone!” I hear myself say in reflex, you can hear the anger in my voice.

He starts to laugh, “Or what?” I look at her and hope that she understands my look; she slightly nods to let me know she does.

I push him hard enough for him to stumble backwards and we start running without looking back. After running for a while, we start to hear someone running after us. I turn slightly and see him. “Shit! Keep running.”

I see an alleyway up ahead, when we reach it I quickly grab her and pull her into it and continue running in the zigzag formation. We come out at the other end and continue running until we don’t hear anything or anyone behind us. We start to slow down and come to a halt, “I… I… think….w…we lost h…him” I say out of breath. All she does is nod while trying to catch her breath.

After our breaths are back she looks at me worried and I pull her into a tight embrace before telling her it will be alright. We start to walk again and everything is back to normal until I feel her pull back, I slightly turn to see what’s wrong.

The guy has grabbed her and pulled her closer to him. “Now, now, girls that wasn’t very friendly, play nice, will you?” he asks, as he places a knife towards her neck.

“Please… Please! Don’t hurt her, I will do anything for you, just let her go,” I say towards him. He just laughs, I can see her worried face and I can’t do anything about it.

I hear the noise of slight chatter coming towards us and I turn. A couple is walking down the road towards us. “What are you going to do now!?” I question him, with a raised eyebrow. He also notices the people walking towards us and he slightly looks to his right and left before he… before he lowers the knife, stabs her and runs away.

“EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMA!” I instantly yell out, running towards her, I feel as though a huge weight has fallen on me and I can’t get free. “Hang in there baby, please… please hang on,” the couple come rushing towards us.

“Call for help” I instantly yell at them. The man doesn’t hesitate to pull his phone out and within seconds he is talking to the ambulance department, telling them to hurry.

“She’ll be fine, the ambulance will be here very soon,” the lady says to me. I’m bawling my eyes out, telling her to hang on and she’s just groaning in pain.

“Jenny,” she says.

“Yes baby, I am here.” I hold onto her, keeping pressure on the wound.

“I… I love you,” she barely says.

I hear the sound of sirens getting closer and closer and they finally reach us. “OVER HERE!” I yell to the paramedics as they come rushing towards us.

“What has happened?” one of them asks.

“A guy stabbed her, isn’t it bloody obvious,” I say, frustrated, regretting what I said. They put her onto the bed and wheel her to the ambulance and put her into the back of it.

I climb in after her and thank the couple for helping us, they smile and tell me it wasn’t a problem and hope that she will be alright. I grab a hold of her hand, telling her everything will be alright. I can’t control the tears flowing from my eyes. My heart races out of control, I feel as though I can’t breathe. We finally reach the hospital and they take her into intensive care.

I’m stuck in the waiting room, not knowing what is going on. Half an hour later her family arrives, “Jenny! What happened?” I hear her mother ask, panicked.

“We were walking around enjoying the night when we ran into some guys. We tried to run away, b…but one of them found us,” I told them, tears started to form again in my eyes, her mother pulling me into a tight hug.

An hour and a half passes, I am still pacing the waiting room, ‘Please be alright, please, I don’t know what I would do without you, I need you, I need you so much baby, please make it through this,’ my thoughts rattle my brain.

A small doctor emerges, “Is she alright?” I quickly ask, taking a deep breath in waiting for the answer.

“Yes, she is, everything went well and she will be just fine, she was very lucky,” the doctor told us.

“Oh thank God,” I breathe out, “Can I see her?” I ask him.

“Yes but only for a short time and only one person at a time, she is very weak and tired.”

I look to her parents and they nod in agreement, I mouth a thank you to them before following the doctor to her room. When I reach her room, I slightly knock on the door and then enter. Tears once again flow down my face when I see her lying there, helpless. She turns to look at me. “Jenny,” she slightly says, before smiling.

I walk towards her, sit down and grab a hold of her hand. “Emma, I am so glad you are alright, I don’t know what I would have done without you, you are my life, you are the reason I breathe, the reason I want to wake up every day, I love you so… so… so much,” I finally say to her.

“Jenny, Shhh it’s alright, I am fine, very sore, but very much alive,” she smiles at me. I can’t help but smile back at her. She looks into my blue, red stained eyes and it feels like she’s looking into my soul, it’s so deep and loving, I start to blush.

“Jenny?”

“Emma?”

“I love you.”

My smile grows even bigger at those words; I get up and gently kiss her forehead. “I love you too baby,” I whisper into her ear.
