Turkey wrap-up

Amazing.  It's the day after Thanksgiving and I'm still experiencing this weird mental lethargy.  I think I have a food hangover again, lol.

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun, as per usual.
revelrain and I are in Pittsburgh, visiting his Dad (Bill), step-Mom (Joanie) and younger brothers.  Thanksgiving dinner was over at Joanie's sister's house.  It's always this immense production.  Joanie's family is pretty big--lots of brothers and sisters from multiple marriages, and many of them have their own kids now.  So there's generally around 20 or so people having dinner together.  It's always hilarious--the whole family is big on snipey banter regardless of the generation they happen to originate from.  So there's a lot of witty repartee bouncing around the room.  I tend to just sit there giggling and trying to eat without snarking my food.  It's a lot harder than you'd think ;)  I did have one odd moment at dinner, though.  Jay's brothers, Josh and Sean, and Josh's girlfriend, Megan, sat with Jay and I at what we decided was the 'kids table,' despite the fact that the kids younger than us (in some cases by rather a lot) were seated elsewhere.  So just our generation together--Bill and Joanie's kids, essentially.  And I looked around at the table and realized that in another 20 years, we'll be the ones organizing and throwing this shindig.  We'll be the ones corralling the kids and gossiping merrily about the absent family members.  We'll be the ones arguing over how best to prepare sweet potatoes.  It was an odd moment, seeing time spinning out in front of me like that.  It was a good one, too, though.  I like my brothers-in-law.  I'm grateful for the family that I acquired when I married
revelrain.  It's odd to think that these wonderful people wouldn't be in my life otherwise.

When we left last night, it started snowing.  It's been flurrying off and on all day today, and I can feel the barest edge of holiday spirit beginning to invade my psyche.  Spending a vast portion of today in the mall being inundated by sparkly things and holiday muzak might have something to do with that as well.  But I like to think it's the snow ;)

Only knocked one more person off my Yule list.  That's okay, though--I still have the rest of December to shop ;)  We generally pick our Christmas present from Bill and Joanie while we're out amongst the sales.  This year, we're bringing home an awesome George Foreman grill.  I've wanted one for a while--I can grill inside, now :D

And that's really about it.  We'll be home on Sunday.  Hope your holiday was good :)

thanksgiving, family
