A lot has happened...
last quarter I managed a 3.8 gpa. Holy Fuck, it was a lot of work but I finally got the grades I deserve and am capable of. The single A I got was in Psych 101, which was taught by a mean old black gay man :) It was a tough class but really interesting. I am in his lab doing independent study this quarter. Today was my first day. I'll be dissecting live crayfish and sea snails to get their central nerve cords. I'll hook up the nerve cords to an oscilloscope and measure the electrical activity of the neurons... cool.

With the independent study I'm taking 17 credits but the work load of the independent study is totaly determined by myself, so I'll be doing the work load of a 20 cr quarter and I'll be working 24 hr/week. I sure hope I'm superman.

Yesterday construction on something was started on my street. The construction company had put up no parking signs 2 weeks ago to let people know about the upcoing construction and that they caouldn't park onstreet. Some idiots tore down all the signs. For the first couple of days nothing happened and I got pissed off because that's what I do when people don't follow the rules, heh. Yesterday when I was walking home I watched as 2 towtrucks began to tow an entire block of cars, which ammounted to about 20. I feel sorry for the people who didn't see the signs but the Karmic justice rendered on the people who tore down the signs, assuming they park on that street, plus the people who drive to school and park onstreet, made my day.

Shawn, Sorry I diddn't make it down for spring break. I got invited on a kayaking trip and I couldn't turn it down. Actually I didn't go kayaking at all. I was invited to go sea kayaking around the San Juan islands for 5 days during spring break. My friend Will from my old scout troop invited me along with 3 other guys I hadn't met. Will and 2 of his firends had kayaking experience. On the Sunday before the trip Will, Joe, and I took the kayaks out on the bay so Joe and I could learn how to kayak. Little did I know Will's knowledge of sea kayaking was about as much as mine. The sea that day was rough, 12 knot winds and 2 foot swells with white caps. At the time I didn't know that was really bad conditions. We got the kayaks off our cars and set them on the ground to make sure they were adjusted right. We found out that Will and Joe were too tall for 2 of the 3 kayaks. Joe ended up with the long kayak and Will squeazed into a short one. I couldn't fit in mine with my shoes on so I had to take them off. Will was the first to get into the water. He instantly fell over his kayak into the bay. If Will and I were still good scouts we would have gotten him into dry clothes right then. Of course I wouldn't be telling this story if he had. He got into his kayak without any more problems. Both Joe and I were able to get in ours and keep dry. While Joe had managed to stay dry he couldn't get his rudder down, which I learned later is not necessary excpet in the conditions we were paddling in. The waves were really strong and only got worse as we stayed out. The waves finally got more powerful than our ego and we turned back. At that time I was the farthest away from shore. Will was about 10 feet away from me and Joe was a ways off. I was having trouble turning around because of the waves. When I finally got pointed to shoe I saw Will had tipped over in his kayak and was trying to swim to shore, all the while cursing and yelling for me to come get him. I got over to Will, which was no easy task in the surf and he grabbed on to my kayak. During that time Joe had also tipped over. He later told us that the curled up into a ball to save heat, a wise move in waters that can kill in an hours time. After Will latched on to my kayak I started the long hard journey back to shore. Kayacks are designed to be extremely areodynamic. If the areodynamics are comprimised by a friend holding on to the kayak they loose a lot of their swiftness. I paddled with all my might fo the next 20 min. Will meanwhile was getting colder and colder. He started to talk like he wasn't going to make it. About that time I got out the safety (rape) whistle. If you have never heard them I will let you know, they are loud as fuck. I was in the open ocean which dissapates sound more than any environment and I nearly blew my eardrums out. After 20 minof paddling and probably 50 feet of distance I noticed a coast guard boat speeding toward Joe's overturned kayak. They picked Joe out of the water and started to search for Will. Will was in the water on the other side of my kayak so they couldn't see him. To me It looked like they had turned around and were heading back after Joe was picked up. That's about when I started to swear and paddle like no tomorrow. After looking under Will's abandoned kayak for a body the coast guard came over to my kayak. The hauled Will and I out of the water. They made imeadetly made Will and Joe get naked and get into these suits.

Neither Will nor Joe got hypothermia which was good and I got a great story which was better.

After that ordeal we decided to go camping. It was a blast, because this is turning into a long post I'll sum up the trip in a few words: unknown destination; illusive hot springs; great off-season weather; old growth forest hike; and whiskey hot dog flavored water, with carrots. It was a great trip and nobody died.
