Well everyone, I have landed in Kuwait where I will be for the next few days. There's not much to do here which is kind of the point. We're just supposed to hang out and decompress which I have mixed feelings about. Oh well, I'll be home soon. I'll be arriving in San Diego on the 19th as I said and then should be home a couple of days after that. Tomorrow we turn in all of our gear which I am thrilled about. I'll go down from four seabags worth of junk to just one. The other nice thing about this place is I can wear civvies around which I haven't done regularly in, well, six months I guess. I've been thinking about how much different "normal" life is going to be as compared to what I've been experiencing for the past six months. Things like the fact that I'll have to pay for my own meals, I'll be driving more than 30 mph, I can't just take a free gatorade from the gas station, and I can't just fill up and drive off for that matter either. Such change. But I am of course very much looking forward to it even if the cost of my expenses is going to skyrocket. I guess that's the tradeoff with leaving a war zone, Uncle Sam stops footing the bill. A tradeoff that will be worth every dime, to be sure. I think it's funny that I haven't even gotten home, yet I've already planned out the majority of my time off before heading back to work in DC. I have people to visit (you all included, of course) messages to send, an apartment to move into. The list goes on and on, but the prospect of living this so-called "normal" life I have ahead of me for the next couple of years is truly exhilirating and comforting as well. Well, not really anything exciting to report, just the fact that I'm safe and sound on the ground and no longer in the Iraq. I will see you all sooner rather than later and I can't wait to get home.
