smithing in all the fun outdoorsyness
Well today I picked up quite a few things and then went to my fathers and sisters place with my forge and all that stuff. I enjoyed it quite a bit. There will be quite a few pictures up. on myspace of course and deviant art. I was able to make a scrolled spiraled handle for a cold chizel of mine. I then worked on a blank my father had. He needed it stretched out in sertin places and curved a bit and thinned. It was fun doing all that. Sadly an ocyacetaline torch that I baught at home depot was completely out of oxegen and didn't have the tool to turn on the acetiline. So I have to take it back and try and eather exchange it or get them to fill them and find me a tool for that. Then I can cut up some of those car springs and make some tools like a hot cut and a punch. Plenty of fun that will be. I am excited I need to make a lot of different tongs. My forge works so well I am really happy. I can't wait to have the time to work with it more and get to making some decorative stuff and things just to use. :D My arms are getting used to the swingin of the hammer and how to get into the rhythm of the hammer falls. the hight that the hammer falls from is what determens the amount of movement the steel makes from each blow. It was quite good to excersixe these mustles and the constant decision making of where each of the next hammer falls should fall for the desired efect. I was amazed that I was able to keep the knife blade centered and not twisted or bent. My father was very happy and proud he took a number of photographs and so did meshell. Good pictures too. Well off to home to work on glueing the vanes down to the shafts of my arrows. got them all ready for the gluing process. excited stuff is getting done. While I was forging some nabers that have known me sence I was like 5 came by cus they heard the anvil ringing they were just amazed and really happy. they really enjoyed watching me work. I showed them alot of the things that I can do. I am thinking I should make them all a little something when I have some tools made. :D time for home :D watch a movie or something. :D I am so freaking excited
