A year ago today 10 bombs concealed in backpacks exploded between 7:37 and 7:42 in three train stations in Madrid. 191 people, including a 13-year old and two babies, died, and more than 1800 people were injured as a result. Forty-one of the dead came from thirteen countries outside of Spain, including fifteen from Romania, five each from Ecuador and Peru, four from Poland, three from Colombia, two from Honduras, and one each from Bulgaria, Chile, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guinea-Bissau, France, and Morocco.

The second deadliest bombing incident in Spain occurred at a Hipercor chain supermarket in Barcelona in 1987, which killed 21 and wounded 40. ETA claimed responsability.

In April 3, a GEO (Grupo Especial de Operaciones - Special Operations Group) policeman died in a police raid when the terrorists trapped inside the apartment, who were directly responsible of the March 11 attacks, committed suicide by setting off explosives.
