The week's been up and down.

On the one hand, my truck suddenly stopped working on saturday.  Like, it was working fine when I drove it to lunch and home from lunch and parked it.  No lights, no problems, no funny sounds.  Then an hour later I went out to move it out of the driveway and it did not start.  It did not turn over.  It did not click.  So, we got it towed out to the shop for them to look at on Monday.

On the other hand, we had a great evening saturday.  First, the SubG and I and a couple of friends (guy a know from work and his teenage son) went to dinner at my new favorite sushi restaurant (Katana Sushi and Sake).  I'm usually opposed to "creative" sushi chefs; but this chef has really made me rethink that position.  Her combinations are really great and the rolls are large.  Two rolls and a couple of bowls of miso soup is totally enough for dinner for two adults.  Anyway, the four of us headed back to our place.  The original plan was to do dinner and a movie so we got to talking about movies, and then other stuff, and then more other stuff.  Sometime after 23:00, we decided to get back to choosing a movie and went with Miller's Crossing.  The SubG and I have, of course, seen this film multiple times; but we really love it.  And neither of our guests had seen it (and one of them is a big Coen Brothers fan, weird).  This is one of my favorite movies; so that was great.  And then we all sat around talking for another several hours.  Around 03:30 the guy's wife called to let him know she was heading to bed and to ask if they were planning to stay out all night. :)  So, they headed home.  It was a really enjoyable evening.

On the one hand, on sunday, the SubG headed out to the driveway, which was now conveniently cleared of my truck, to do the work on his car he'd wanted to do saturday.  Once he dug into it, he found the right shock tower mount had already  nearly completely failed.  He knew they both needed replacing and that's what he was in there for; but one of them had already torn up the sheet metal where it mounts and (since we lack a welding rig) he'd have to have it taken to a body shop.  He's just lucky it had not actually catastrophically failed whilst he was driving around.  So, then we had no car at all.

On the other hand, on sunday afternoon and in the evening, I spent my time sitting around listening to back "issues" of Wait wait... don't tell me! and knitting a couple of projects I wanted to get done for some other people.  This was, of course, really pleasant.  We ordered pizza for dinner.  We watched a movie.  Good time.

On the one hand, the news on my truck was not so great (battery AND starter AND, incidentally, a problem with the brake calipers).  On the other hand, they got it all done on monday.  And on the third hand, it's now making a funny noise that sounds very transmission-y which it absolutely was not making before I took it into the shop.

On the one hand, the news on the SubG's ride was good; it's easy to fix and won't cost much.  On the other hand, none of the local BMW shops have one to sell the body shop and it has to be ordered and then there is xmas and the car's not going to be ready until mid to late next week.

On the one hand, I got some pretty unpleasant (though nothing DIRE) family news about one of my cousins.  On the other hand, I got some pretty super health news from one of my friends.

I think, overall, though, things are pretty damned good.

subg, miller's crossing, truck, sushi, knitting, wait wait don't tell me, movies, radio
