So, first the big news: I am cleared for chewing (very soft things)! Hurrah, and suchlike things.
But, as I sit here eating my very international post-dinner calories -- Pavel's Russian yogurt with a teaspoon of Lupita's (Miel Pura!) (Sin Filtrar) Real California Honey -- I've gotta tell ya: Don't get too excited.
Chewing is difficult a lot. In the first place, I still cannot really entirely feel my ... teeth? ... jaws? ... thing that gives you feedback about things like whether your teeth are together and whether there are things between them when they are. And secondly, all of my muscles are sort of in "fuck you! Those of us who were not moved around outright are pretty damned sore from being sort of stretch around like this and also did we mention you haven't used us in six weeks!!!" mode. And thirdly, what I can feel is just flat out weird to me given that I've never had all these teeth touching like this before. It feels a little ... obscene, all this capacity for masticating.
So, whilst I can very slowly and somewhat laboriously chew very delicious things like delicious stewed meats and not entirely mashed up lentils and soft bread, I'm also still needing to supplement my calories with the same sorts of paste-, goop-, and liquid-like foods I've been eating for the past six weeks.
By the way, if you have to go on a paste/goop/liquid diet, I highly recommend you not be lactose intolerant or otherwise allergic to dairy. This all could have been much much worse.
