This is a strange year in TV for me

I have, over the years, dumped TV shows. Obviously. Otherwise I'd be watching practically every scripted show on TV. However, I've never been so tempted to dump so many in one year.

Over the years, shows I've actively dumped have been CSI, CSI:NY, Hawaii Five-0 and Criminal Minds (but I seem to have returned for the far less awful 8th season. Huh ( Read more... )

I haven't picked up many shows over the last few years, either. Certainly not a lot on the US networks. So much of it is the same tired, cliche bullshit that is so predictable it's not even funny anymore and so badly written it's depressing.

I'm enjoying Arrow but am well aware of its shortcomings and weaknesses and I really hope they don't go down the cliched and obvious route with some of their storylines.

Elementary is another show I've been enjoying this year. I love what they are doing with Sherlock and Joan.

There are a few others that I'm watching that I enjoy but they aren't particularly good.

But all my favourite shows are at least 3 seasons long, and, generally, on US cable (Nikita and The good Wife are the exceptions).

I gave up on original CSI when Grissom and Sara got together. I could totally buy her having a planet sized crush on him but not so much him falling for her. Plus, I watched that show mostly for the crime solving. I enjoyed some of the personal stuff - like with Catherine - but I didn't want boring romantically entanglements taking over the show. And then, even once Sara and Grissom I couldn't be bothered to go back.

I gave up on CSI:NY when Danny and Lyndsay got together. I just couldn't buy it at all. The writers characterisation of Lyndsay was always off, they never seemed to know if they wanted her to be a newbie or awesome and changed her depending on what the story needed and it bugged me. And the actors, in my view, had little to no chemistry and watching them tying to have Danny and Lyndsay like each other was just painful.

With me, I seem to be able to handle a lot of crap from shows I like/love but my line seems to be characters getting together.

I can't properly explain when it bothers me in shows and and when it doesn't, I just know when I hate it.
