Just got back from seeing The Avengers

Non-spoilery review:-

AMAZING. Joss totally and utterly pulled it off. He manages to get in action, character moments, character arcs and humour into 2 hours and 22 minutes. Go and see it as soon as you can.

This is in no particular order

Two moments reminded me of Buffy:-

The beginning, which was just like Sunnydale falling into the Hellmouth.

And then the bit where Loki turns everyone against each other was just like when Spike turned the Scooby Gang on each other at the end of season four.

I now totally get why Hawkeye was hardly in any of the trailers - it would have totally spoiled everything in the first half of the film. And Tasha bringing him out of Loki's spell by knocking him unconscious was hilarious. And that was a pretty fucking awesome fight. I loved their friendship. And I was relieved that it wasn't romantic. I liked that Joss didn't feel like he needed romance.

I loved the Tony/Steve banter. But, even more than that, I loved the connection that Tony and Bruce got. That was awesome and made me so very happy. And I loved how Tony was convinced that Bruce would turn up to the party.

Tony happy with Pepper was also very nice to see.

I loved how they furthered the Thor-Loki family issues. And Thor just wants his brother back. I just want Loki to get over his issues and for him and Thor to be awesome brothers together. Loki sitting back to watch Cap and Tony beat on Thor was hilarious and that was an awesome fight between Thor and Iron Man with Cap ending it very nicely.

I was happy that no-one was taken in by Loki being taken into custody and just couldn't figure out what he was up to. Natasha using Loki's arrogance and his assumption that she'd be weak because she was a woman against him was brilliant. I spent most of the movie loving Natasha SO HARD.

Coulson holding while she took out those guys in Russia was so cool and I loved Coulson so hard in this. So, God, when he died I was devastated. I love Coulson. Roll on the fanfic that doesn't have him die. And Coulson fanboy-ing over Cap was so adorable. He gets all tongue-tied.

Loki's confusion when his staff of destiny (or whatever Tony calls it) doesn't work was hilarious. And Tom Hiddleston's delivery was perfect.

When they were defending NYC I loved all the different combinations that Joss had and how they all worked so seamlessly together. I'm a sucker for team and family and this had it in spades.

The Hulk hulk-smashing Loki all over Stark Tower will never not be funny. Hulk punching Thor across the station was also brilliant.

I can't believe all the character moments and continuation of character arcs that Joss managed to pack into the film. All my favourite moments were characters moments and beats.

Oh, and if anyone is curious about the 3D, it's actually pretty good. Possibly the best 3D film that I've seen (not that I've seen that many as I hate 3D), even if it doesn't really add anything to the film.

I can't wait to go and see it again. Tomorrow. I already know which (2D) performance I'm going to.
