Fall 2011 TV shows take 2

Sep 28, 2011 12:37

There was SO MUCH TV last week. I managed to watch it all, though. Go me.

I wasn't too sure how I was going to feel about this since Maria Bello - as much as I love her - is no Helen Mirren, but as long as I don't think about the original, it's not actually too bad.

The rampant sexism seemed a little over the top since there are plenty of other women in law enforcement shows that don't experience anything like the discrimination Jane does. Apparently the creators have said in interviews that they are going to tone it done and it's not going to be such a big thing. Which is good, because these guys were acting like they'd never seen a woman outside of a kitchen and it was just weird in 2011.

I liked Kenny Johnson as her boyfriend and I totally loved the way she blackmailed his ex into letting their kid come and stay at their apartment.

Okay, so this is truly, truly terrible. Like, REALLY terrible.

Timing for the puns and banter was off.

I find the idea that any of these actresses can beat up a room full of guys laughable. Maggie Q they are not.

The acting was SO wooden I was laughing even when things were supposed to be emotional because, damn, it just wasn't believable. I can't single out of any of the actresses because they were all equally bad.

And, god, Charlie's voice. WTF was up with that? It was all monotone, no charisma. Nothing that would explain why the Angel's like and are loyal to Charlie. Since we never see him, why not get a voice actor who's, you know, good?

I might watch another episode to marvel at the awfulness, but then I'm truly out. I can't see this show hanging around for long, though.

Unforgettable - It was in no way awful, but, it was kind of...forgettable - you see what I did there?

Oh my god, show, what are you doing? Like, really???

At the end of season three I was worried that they were going to somehow retcon killing Red John but then I thought that they wouldn't have Patrick killing an innocent man.

Well, they did retcon Red John but they didn't have him kill an innocent man.

But, god, that was AWFUL.

First off, that trial would have taken years, not days. God, did it even take a day?

But Jane killed someone and didn't care? I mean, I get that the guy (and his wife) were monsters and that the fact that he's no longer in the world isn't a terrible thing, but even so, having Jane not care that he killed someone other than Red John was a really bad decision.

Plus, I was really curious about they were going to deal with Red John being dead. How Jane was going to get out of the murder charge and if he was going to stay with CBI and what his motivation was going to be now Red John was dead and gone.

And they fucked it up.

I doubt I'm going to stop watching any time soon, but I don't think it's on my 'must watch as soon as it's downloaded' list.
