I have been trying to catch up on my TV viewing and have partially succeeded. I have also managed to go to the movies a couple of times. I think this is a great accomplishment for me.
TV
So, the day before this aired,
thisissirius, and I were wondering who might die and who we were okay with being killed - we didn't think Vance would die (which I had been wondering because of the whole eye thing, but then I reckoned it might have been noticed if the Director of NCIS had disappeared for that long) and we really didn't want Fornell to be killed off. However, we were fine with Mike Franks being killed off, because, honestly, he has pissed us off for many, many seasons.
So, I was quite okay with Franks being killed off. I felt sorry for Gibbs because it was his mentor and friend, but, really, Franks always fucked things up and I didn't like him and didn't kind him endearing and always thought Gibbs was compromised when Franks was around.
Before this, did we know that EJ had been promoted over Gibbs?
I know Alimi Ballard's character got shot, but did he actually get killed? I want him to stay around for a while. I like him.
The idea that the P2P killer stole an ID and was wondering around NCIS is more than a little creepy.
I loved Tony going over to Gibbs with the umbrella - I also loved the whole thing with Tony insisting it was going to rain and everyone thinking he was crazy *g*
I really, really hope that EJ somehow survives. I don't want Tony to have to lose another girlfriend. Also, EJ is awesome and I don't want her to die.
Did love Gibbs realising why the P2P killer didn't try to kill him.
Okay, this finale was fucking awesome. Absolutely fucking awesome. I loved everything about it.
Dickie is the only Bennett to survive. Somehow that doesn't surprise me.
I TOTALLY cheered Boyd turning up and saving Raylan from Dickie beating him to death with a baseball bat. And then Boyd being rather pissed that Raylan was taking Dickie with him. Although I also loved Raylan being more than prepared to leave Dickie to Boyd's justice.
Relieved that Ava was okay, though. Totally and utterly love her and her and Boyd are totally adorable together.
Why does Rylan persist in staying with Winona? When she tells Raylan to leave Loretta to whatever happens to her, I couldn't believe it. A 14 year old girl? Has she never met Raylan? Asking him to ignore an innocent in danger? Really? Well, damn.
I totally cheered when Doyle got shot because TIM. Damn, but I love him SO much. One thing I do want with next season is more with Tim and Rachel. They just don't get enough to do and they are such interesting characters.
I do appreciate that Winona asked Art to go and pull Raylan out of the fire, but I really don't think that makes up for a season of her generally being annoying. I also hope that Art and Raylan are now okay because it makes me sad when they fight.
Raylan talking down Loretta from shooting Mags was amazing and I love that Raylan is the only person Loretta trusts because he's the only person who has kept his promise and been there when he said he would be. Her asking if he's been shot and his meh-like response was hilarious.
For a moment I was kind of scared that Mags had put the poison in Raylan's jar, but, no, she put it in hers. I'm kind of sad to see her go. She was a villain, but she was complex and had her moments of being kind. I'm miss her next season and wonder if the next person will be half as interesting as Mags and the rest of the Bennett's.
Seriously, Chuck, how do you do it? Up until two episodes ago I was feeling mixed about you. There were good ideas hastily put together because of the way NBC kept fucking you around with renewal and now many episodes you could have per season. And then you go and do something like this. Within two episodes you make we want to know NOW what happens.
God, SARAH! I didn't think Sarah would be the one targeted. Holy fucking shit.
And I loved and adored the way Ellie found out. That was amazing.
Chuck's bachelor party was hilarious. I loved Casey using Awesome and Morgan as bait. Never not be funny. And Chuck seems to be over his thing about hitting girls.
I wanted more Ray Wise, dammit.
I love the moments between Alex and Casey and hope we get more. They are too adorable.
Love the Agent X twist and actually can't wait to find out what happens with Vivian. Never thought I'd say that.
Only, what? About 8 hours until I can find out what happens in Chuck *bites nails*
I also hope that Chuck's season five pick-up means thy can totally do the story they want to do without having to worry about being given more episodes to suddenly do something with and that they totally hit it out of the park. Season five could be truly epic. And hopefully be an awesome goodbye from Chuck.
Do not allow the fact that The Chicago Code got cancelled stop you from watching it. According to the creator, Shawn Ryan, it'll work perfectly well as a mini-series. It's a shame it'll be a mini-series, but it'll work as one.
Teresa continues to be kickass and awesome and I love her. Her taking the fight to Gibbons was awesome and the way she played it so Gibbons' choice for the commander of Gang warfare was snapped up by the mayor's office was awesome.
I do wonder if we might be ending the season in a similar vein to the how it was begun: with an assassination attempt on Colvin. Only this time it really is on Gibbons' orders.
I was SO relieved when Jarek told the 27 year old that there wasn't going to be a wedding and that he acknowledged how much of a douche he'd been to her, his ex and his kid by behaving how he did (a certain cop in a certain other show might want to take note of that). I was extra glad that he and his ex didn't get back together because she recognised how they didn't work together and how they would be repeating the same old mistakes.
I thought that it was really interesting what they did with Vonda finding out some of the reality of her dad and the fact that he and her mum were going to split up before he got killed. And I totally loved that Jarek left the watch for her and kissed her on the forehead. Am I the only one who wants more touching niece-uncle moments like that?
I can't wait for the next few episodes and am SO pissed that it got cancelled. It would have been an epic show.
OMG - how much do I love this show?
I think they are doing a really good job of keeping everyone up to speed on whats happening and who is involved in what. There are some things that are stated in the last couple of episodes that I knew from reading the books but that I wish had been stated a little more clearly in the book.
I totally love and adore Ayra - this is no secret, I know. But I loved the slideways glance he does after telling Ned what she overheard and telling him that she'd been chasing cats.
Ummm, how the HELL did I miss gay subtext between Renly and the Knight of Flowers in the book? How the hell? I mean, here it is far more than subtext, but still.
I loved SO many of the conversations in this episode - Varys and Littlefinger was AMAZING but I also loved the one between Robert and Ceresi.
I had to go and check my book to see if Jamie and Ned crossing swords actually happened in the book and it both did and didn't. Ned's men get killed, but in the book Jamie has already ridden away. I thought it was weird that I didn't remember an confrontation between the two because I was pretty sure I would.
This must mean the thing with Ned must happen either next week or, at the latest, the week after, right?
I thought Peter Dinklage was AMAZING. Totally and utterly amazing. I already loved Tyrion but he's making me love the character EVEN MORE! How is that possible?
I was really quite happy that there was nothing over with Dany and Khal Drogo.
And Cat's sister (who's name completely escapes me at the moment) was just downright unnerving. I loved the unsure glance she exchanged to Tyrion. And her son - Robin, did they call him in this? - was just as creepy in his own way as Joffrey and, just as cruel.
Roll on next week.
Films
Saw the trailer for POTC4. It looks like a mess, but possibly a fun mess, so I'll probably go to see that.
Just realised that Ray Wise and Michael Ironside are in X-Men: First Class. This film officially cannot get any cooler now.
Hangover 2 actually made me laugh.
Hurry up Captain America. I want to see you now, please.
So, having seen this once in 3D and once in 2D, I can tell you, see the 2D. The 3D adds nothing to it, makes the things in the background and at the edges a bit blurry and, well, is just more expensive for no good reason that I can see.
Jane and Thor are freaking adorable and how can you not love repeated jokes about hitting someone with your car *g*
I thought the stuff in Asgard was done really well. Every time Loki was on screen I felt so damn sorry for him. Talk about a walking PSA to tell your kids about adoption. If only Odin had explained it when Loki was younger, this could possibly have all been avoided.
Loki was just so...misguided.
But I did love how Thor kept on forgiving his brother and just couldn't get why Loki would consider himself anything other that Thor's brother and part of their family because he was. I liked that a lot.
I adored Lady Sif. Thought she was magnificent. Loved it when Thor was like 'Who proved that a woman could be a mighty warrior?' And she was like, 'I did.' And he had to concede the point, because, well, she really did.
Darcy was love. Just, pure love. I adored her. Everything that came out of her mouth was comedy gold and I want her back in a Marvel film STAT!
Heimdall was amazing and awesome and totally badass. I loved him being all 'yeah, go get Thor back' to Thor's friends. Hilarious.
And, for me, my favourite part was the Hawkeye cameo. I adore and love Jeremy Renner and his three or four minutes on screen were awesome. And he's snarky. Snarky, hot and good with a bow and arrow. Of course I'm going to like him. Also him asking Coulson if he's going to send in more guys for Thor to beat up was hilarious.
Coulson was also bloody brilliant and even when he was being all Men in Black with Jane I thought he was awesome. And the matter of fact way he tells Thor he doesn't think Thor has been entirely honest with him was brilliant.
Roll on Avengers and, well, any other Marvel film (especially any with Hawkeye in them)
Well, they didn't exactly obey the laws of physics in this film, did they? That said, it was SO much fun. I loved it.
I was gutted that they brought back Vince (who I love) only to kill him off.
Love the idea of Uncle Dom. That kid is going to be SO spoilt.
I loved the Vin/Rock fight. Totally awesome.
I adore how these movies are so multi-cultural. It's totally awesome.
The only thing that definitely had me going WTF was when Dom reappeared with the lady cop. What the hell? Really? Well, okay then. It makes no sense but I loved the rest of the film I can live with it.
Brian coming back to save Dom's ass was so obvious but such a 'hell, yeah' moment. And I loved how OK they both were with leaving the safe-full of money. The Rock should have known the money wasn't there and they already had it - in, what was, a brilliant swap over.
I want to see it again. This will be one DVD I'll definitely be buying.
Going to go to bed, wake up and watch the finales to Chuck and Castle. The second to last episode of The Chicago Code. And, also Hawaii Five-0, which I'm pretty sure will have something of an epic post, probably covering the entire season.
