And I have been watching yet more TV

Feb 04, 2011 23:00

If there is one thing I'm not falling behind on at the moment, it's watching TV shows *eyeroll*

I really, really want to like this show. I like practically all shows on USA - well, except Royal Pains and I love Sarah _____, and ___ _____ (Anders on BSG) and I like law shows, so...I should like this, right?

Apparently I was wrong. I just. It kind of bores me. I don't find it offensive, I don't find it much of anything, to be honest.

I'm not overly fond of the lead character. I find her too self absorbed and completely unaware of the world around her. And not in the cute way I think we're supposed to.

The step-mum is by far my favourite character. I think if this was a show about her coping with running her late husband's law company I'd watch it.

I find myself not even a little bit curious about who the fourth person in the will is.

I have so much other stuff to watch, I think this one is slipping off the radar. At least for a while.

After all the hype for this episode - as it would have been the season/series finale if NBC hadn't ordered another nine episodes - I wasn't as impressed by it as I think I was supposed to be. It would have been better as a finale as it wraps up pretty much all the character arcs as well as the Volkov arc.

I loved that Chuck used his brain to plan the capture of Volkov and not the Intersect. His and Morgan's planning board was a thing of beauty.

I do think it's a shame that the idea that Chuck didn't know if Sarah had gone over to the dark side couldn't have been played out for longer. I mean, it bugged me, but it bugged me more that it went on for about ten minutes.

Casey beating the crap out of the guy who came to kill him in the hospital was hilarious and totally made me cheer.

I loved how Volkov went to shoot Chuck and Chuck is like, 'I should have mentioned my thing about guns' Brilliant.

And the bit where Volkov is all 'yeah? You and what army?' and Chuck opens the door to reveal General Beckman and what looks to be a pretty hefty amount of the US military, I totally cheered. You knew it was coming, but it was brilliantly played.

Devon freaking out and being talked down by Casey was alternatively hilarious and adorable.

Jeffster were...predictable. It wasn't my favourite performance by them by a long shot.

The shot of Casey, Morgan and Alex walking (or rolling, in Casey's case) down the corridor was adorable and lovely and totally made my heart feel like bursting. One thing I do want to see in the second half of the season is more Casey and Alex father/daughter stuff. I love it.

I've been ambiguous about Linda Hamilton this season. I loved her introduction and then...didn't much care one way or the other. Although the look she gives Chuck when he tells her they are going to have a chat about the pros of stun guns was priceless.

Season two finale and Chuck vs The Beard are still my favourite episodes ever of Chuck.

Okay, so when the team made comments about how gunnery sergeant didn't seem upset by her husband's death, I want to hit each and every one of them. She's a gunnery sergeant in the Marine's, for crying out loud. Of course she doesn't just burst into tears or lose it. If a guy had had the same reaction, there wouldn't even have been a comment about it. Bloody hell.

It wasn't even like she was cold - she was obviously trying to keep it together and carry on for her son. Why was it necessary for her to break down and cry or be sniffly or anything?

I was SO worried that they were going to go down the obvious route of her killing her husband to stop the abuse but I'm so glad they didn't.

And did the bar owner REALLY have to make a comment about how Ziva and Tony were fighting like a couple? One of the reasons this really annoys me is that I have exactly the same kind of arguments with lots of friends and, as much as I love them, I don't want to have sex with them. Snark/sarcasm/banter doesn't mean you want to jump into bed someone. God.

NCIS:LA - I have no idea why I keep watching, but I do enjoy it so much.

So, I take it we all agree that the next mystery is going to be finding out about Neal's dad, yes? Or, at least Peter and us, finding out about Neal's dad. And probably Neal, no? Because do we think that whatever Neal think's he knows, is promptly going to be turned on its head? Probably.

So, I'm going to assume that Neal has got out of lying outright to Peter, however, he does still use misdirection and omission of certain details.

In that vain, I believe that his mum did tell him what she thought a boy would want to hear about his father. There was just too much pain there - and throughout the episode - for that to not be true. Does that mean I think it's as simple as his dad being a (dirty) cop? No. To me, that sounds like classic Neal, where he reduced a complex story into a single sentence without any of the accompanying details. Because I don't think he lied about that because when Mozz gave him that look, it seemed like he was very 'well, that's one way you could describe it' So not so much a lie, just avoiding certain facts.

Do I think his dad's dead? I'm honestly not sure. If he is, I don't think he died when Neal was a baby and never knew him.

The bit that interests me is the bit where Mozzie said 'He could be useful' and I'm left wondering did he mean Neal's father, or Peter? Because if he means Neal's dad, then he's very much alive and into something. If he means Peter, does that mean Neal's dad is dead? And if so, does Neal think he wasn't a dirty cop? And would Peter be useful in proving that?

Do I think Neal's dad fucked him over and probably left him to get into trouble for something? Hell, yes, because Neal was way convinced that a father should always help their kid out of a shitty situation. Or at least, that's how Neal read the situation, if that is what happened.

Also, it never occurred to me that Neal Caffrey was an alias in of itself. Because it has to be if Peter knows nothing about his family or what he was doing before he was eighteen.

Oh, but I am intrigued.

And how many character moments did I love in this episode?

The beginning conversation between Neal and Peter and travelling was pure comedy gold. 'I got Interpol updates - Neal robbed a museum, wish you were here.'

I don't think Peter honestly expected Neal to tell him anything about his dad and I think his glee comes as much from Neal telling him something and not just the fact that his dad was a cop.

I love the idea that the entire team had been keeping Neal in the dark about the FBI having a gem vault. I can just see Peter getting a call one night telling him that Neal broke into the vault and Neal being all 'I didn't take anything, I just wanted to see what you had.' And Peter and Hughes just rolling their eyes and telling him not to do it again.

And OMG, going to the gem dealer. The entire thing was awesome. From Neal introducing Peter as Mr Satchmo to Peter burning Neal's alias because he called him after his dog and Neal thinking that was a fair reason.

How adorable was the bit where Peter was trying to get Neal to open up and Neal kept telling Peter to do his crossword? The only thing missing was Elizabeth to laugh at them *g*

Mozzie's glee at making the stone was adorable. Neal was hot. Peter was resigned.

And then when the gem guy is leering at Diane and her and Peter exchange eyeroll's. God, but I love them so much.

And Jones looking all spiffy in his designer clothes.

And then the British guy pointing the gun at Neal and Neal being all 'you don't have a team? While I do. And here they are. Aren't they the bestest?' Oh, Neal, you're so adorable.

But the bit that got me was when Neal asked Peter what he would be prepared to do if it was his kid. OR NEAL's. I loved that, in Neal's mind, his kid and Peter's kid would hold the same importance. And that Peter didn't contradict him. Oh, boys *hugs*

And then Diane pointing out to Peter that if he wanted to stop Neal he easily could. And the Peter goes and helps Neal.

I loved that once again we see Neal using the semantics of the law to beat the bad guys, like he did in the pilot where because Peter was pursuing Neal on the run, he could enter the warehouse and seize anything he saw there. This time, it's once the harddrive is on the ground, it's US soil so Neal can pick it up. Awesomeness.

And at the end when Peter asks if Neal's mum had a thing for hats. Ha!

God, but I do love this show.
