EDIT: Something VERY weird just happened with my White Collar spoiler cut. I hope no-one read anything they didn't want to while I wrestled it back under control. This is why I never go to bed now without checking all the coding works as I expect *g*
TV's been pretty good these last few weeks. Awesome.
You know, I'm getting a bit tired of Chuck not thinking things through. When Sarah is kicking Casey's ass, how could he not have thought that maybe, just maybe, it was a set up, that it was maintaining Sarah's cover. Okay, once Casey fell several stories I can see how Chuck might not think that, but before hand? Has he not been in enough of these situations to maybe not look at things quite so literally?
Timothy Dalton was as awesome as ever. I love how he goes from kind old uncle type to psycho killer in less than a second.
Morgan and Alex are adorable.
Sarah looked fucking hot. Shocking, huh?
When is anyone going to look in Casey's pocket?
Tim, you broke my heart. Broke my heart, I tell you. And Coach talking at his hearing had me crying buckets.
In other news I love Coach and Mrs Coach. They have the BEST marriage.
Hawaii Five-0
Um. Wow. I LOVED this episode. These writers should be employed forever and ever. They rock EVERYTHING.
On my second watch, I noticed a few things. When Steve got Kamekona he gave Danny all the time he needed to get Grace comfortable with going off with him . He looked at his watch once and in no way betrayed any notion that he thought Danny was taking too long. And, kind of off camera, as Danny is talking to Kamekona, Steve bends down and has a little chat with Grace. I SO want to know what he said.
I love how they keep going with Danny not being all that comfortable with technology. Danny playing catch up with Steve, who already is about 10 steps into how to work out if there is a second signal was hilarious. His wounded look was a thing of beauty. Although, I do question how difficult a notion it was. Surely you just need to have an average knowledge of Hollywood films? Or Independence Day?
I loved how, while Danny is yelling at Steve to get them the hell away from the evacuation zone, Steve is kind of putting into practice the kind of policing Danny is always nagging him about. He looks at the evidence. He listens to people. He looks at things from a different angle - like Danny asked that he did when Meka was killed.
It was like seeing Steve taking Danny's comments on board and actually applying them to his work. Although, I'm sure that will only be when it suits him ;-)
And can I just say that hacker was very sure footed. VERY sure footed. As someone who has clambered over yachts a fair bit over the years, jumping about on them like that isn't easy.
Also, as someone who has been hit by a boom, there should at least have been an impressive bruise appearing, if not a broken nose. Those things HURT. But Danny's 'my work here is done' was hilarious and adorable.
And when Danny says that Steve is going to go and do something insane and once again he's taking a leaf out of Danny's book? I kind of loved it.
Steve might be growing as a person. Or maybe he's trying to impress Danny -- like in about 75% of fanfic.
Also Steve's face when the hacker says 'Rome didn't burn in a day' makes me laugh just thinking about. It's just awesome.
Do I even need to say how much I adored the car conversation about Danny liking Hawaii? I can only add that the only reason Steve's face isn't the last one he'd want to see is because it's the second to last one, first, obviously, being Grace.
Danny, if your distraction is driving a forklift through a wall, you can hardly bitch Steve out for shooting a guy through a window. Okay?
And then TEAM! The entire conversation about what to do made me SO happy. Because they were talking about actions and consequences and giving a damn about the.
Also, the bit where Steve's all 'I know what you're thinking' and Danny points out that he knew exactly what he was signing up for and he wouldn't change it and, God, would Steve please stop thinking he's responsible for every little thing. I mean, of COURSE Steve thinks this is his fault and that he should take the blame and I love how they don't do that. The look on Steve's face when Chin, Kono and Danny walk in make me squeal quite a bit. Because, TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!
And, yeah, what the fuck is up with the money? I particularly liked Danny's reaction. I mean, it's Wu Fat, right?
I'm SO unaccountably happy that Danny knew Hawaiian history and could ask not to show Grace the bit where the king throws his enemies off the cliff. Danny, this kind of makes up for you being a bit of a douche during the Christmas episode.
I'm SO happy that Will and Diane seem to be back on the same page *g*
I love that Diane might have tempted Cary back. I love him so much and seeing him on the opposition has been fun, but I want him back in the firm.
I loved that Eli used Peter to get Jackie under control and I love that Alisha was the one who put him onto that strategy. Although, I did feel a little sorry for Jackie - she looked kind of lost after Peter walked away.
And, from the episode before:-
I adore Owen. And I love his relationship with Alisha.
I particularly enjoyed his conversation with Jackie about Grace. He's all mocking about Jackie's idea that Grace might be a lesbian until Jackie says she was holding hands with her friend while in her room and Owen just stops, and is a bit like, huh. Kind of loved that.
I'm more than a little happy that there wasn't a single comment about gays by either Tony, McGee or Ziva. That is all.
White Collar
Okay, so, first off, as a rule, I LOVE flashback episodes. I mean, Out Of Gas is my favourite episode of Firefly because it deals with how Mal got Serenity and put his crew together. It's all kinds of awesome.
I ADORE the flashback episodes of The West Wing. You get to know how all the characters knew/met each other. How the campaign started. Hell, you even get an episode about Leo being in Korea.
Then you have the flashback episodes in Mad Men, Buffy and Angel, to name but a few. I love all of them.
So, in theory I should have LOVED this episode.
I mean, we had the story about how Peter and Neal met.
And if that had been the whole story, I think I would have loved it. But they threw EVERYTHING in there. Everything. They told the ENTIRE story.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???
Because, look, not only do we have Neal meeting Peter - although, I have to say I LOVED Neal just walking up to Peter - we had Neal meeting Mozzie, Alex AND Kate. We had Neal coming to NYC and the story of how Neal fell into the lifestyle he is now accustomed to, not to mention his creation of Nick Halden. And on top of all of that you get the music box. Oh, and the bonds that Neal got arrested are involved, too.
And then in the FBI you have Peter thinking of setting up a White Collar team, meeting Jones and Diane. And the mention of the Dutchman.
It was WAY too much to cram into one episode. WAY TOO MUCH.
They had SO much material there. So much that they could have filtered through later episodes.
Because I liked the idea of Jones actually getting himself added to the task force. I liked that he was the one who brought the Dutchman to Peter's attention. But when you add in this being the first time the task force was assembled it seems to easy. And then there was meeting Diane - also, how long was Diane his probie for? Because it seems like it was for about 8 years. Peter referred to her as his probie to Neal back in the pilot. Also, if she was around for the creation of the task force, how did she not know who Neal was? - although, I did like that she was the one to come up with idea of using Kate to catch Neal.
And, in a way to me, the story was too cute. It connected all the dots far to easily. And also, it made Neal far less mysterious and I find myself less impressed with what he can do now.
Before this episode, despite Neal's relative youth, I had this idea that Mozzie and Neal had known each other for years and that Kate had been the love of his life for YEARS, too. And I also can't see what Neal sees in Kate - I saw chemistry between Alex and Neal, but not really between Kate and Neal.
I thought Neal had this epic career - that's always been the impression I've got from everything that was said. And now...it's seems, not so much. Neal came to NYC, did a big con with Mozzie (and got conned in the process), then did some cons with Mozzie and Kate, went and did a job with Alex, did a bit more in NYC and then got arrested.
I did like the arrest, though. Neal shaking Peter's hand was a very nice touch.
The scenes set in the present were awesome. No doubt.
Peter bringing Neal wine was a nice touch. Remembering that Neal doesn't like beer - character continuity FTW
Peter giving Neal immunity was brilliant - and I liked how he checked Neal hadn't killed anyone first.
Neal: Some secrets are good
Peter: It's about crimes I don't know about
James Bonds? Oh god, Peter, you should NEVER have told Neal that. He's going to be impossible to deal with, now.
I did like us seeing Neal's chameleon abilities and his impulsiveness with going and saying hi to Peter.
Castle
Now, White Collar, take note, THIS is how you do an episode that is pulling lots of threads together.
Okay, so yeah, wow. This episode rocked.
I was always a little worried about what they were going to do with Beckett's mom's death. Now? Now I'm not so worried. Because THAT was an episode.
I loved seeing a more serious Castle. And, on that score, the look on his face when the drug lord guy in riling up Beckett? Totally took me back to his Mal Reynolds days, because, damn, that was intense.
I loved Captain Montgomery SO DAMN MUCH in this show. In so many cop shows the captain is an obstacle to the lead cop, but in this Montgomery is so THERE for Beckett. He gives her a chance to stay on her mum's case but when she gets too emotional (and who wouldn't?) he pulls her off, for the good of Beckett and the good of the case.
Martha was absolutely stunning. When Rick told Martha he didn't know why she was worried and she told him that she couldn't believe him and how could he say that when he knows how much he loves Alexis and that's how much she loves him. God, made me have tears in my eyes.
And can we have more of Esposito and Ryan being the kickass detectives they are? Because that was awesome and I loved it. They had Beckett's back throughout the entire episode, from when they told Montgomery that they'd been her backup at the met with Raglan to them being determined to find the guy who had her mum killed.
And then when they got captured and tortured. They went with plan 'B' *g* Of course they went with plan 'B'. And they bantered. Catholic school jokes. 'Your mum' jokes. Brilliant. Love them.
The discoveries about the circumstance's surrounding the death of Beckett's mum were brilliantly done and felt totally organic. I can't wait to see where this all goes and what happens.
This week there is finally new SPN and Nikita. YAY!
