...or, if I'm honest, mostly Arthur and Eames, with the others thrown in for good measure
I saw Inception for the third time last night. And it was on the IMAX which made it just that little bit more exciting because this is actually the first time I've been to the IMAX.
I thought I'd kick this off with something not Arthur or Eames based, just to be difficult...
So, in fandom I've noticed that pre Mal's death, people often write as though Cobb and Co have always done illegal jobs (okay, this is totally true for Eames and Yusaf, but that's not my point) but there's that moment between Cobb and Miles when Cobb says that after Mal's death he didn't have any choice but to do illegal jobs, which makes me think that before hand Cobb and Mal and Arthur did something...official. I don't want to say moral because it's still fucking around in people's heads. Plus, since Miles trained Cobb, I can't see him setting up a criminal group.
I would very much love to see a fic where Cobb (and Arthur) finally decide to take an illegal job (and if it's Eames who's talking them into it, all the better).
So, I spent the beginning of the movie checking out the viability of the whole Cobb wears his wedding ring in dreams but not in the waking world. Since it is a sound observation, I spent from the moment he woke on the plane till the end of the film trying to see his wedding finger. That Nolan is a crafty bugger. He doesn't give a clear shot of that hand once. I'm 99.99% sure there was no ring but I feel it's definitely going to be something to check out once the DVD hits. I'll be scene jumps to that moment and checking out if there's a ring or not.
Another thing I've noticed fandom doing is dressing Arthur up so that he's always wearing a tie (did they really forget the leather jacket?) and always having his top button done up. There are at least two instances where Arthur has his tie on and the top button undone. Once when Eames isn't there and once when he is (look, I knew the plot by this point. I was focusing on the important stuff this time, okay?)
I do find myself wishing that there had been just a little time dedicated to the fact that Cobb didn't tell Arthur what was going on. I feel that should have been a thing. Especially after the argument they had about Arthur missing the fact that Fischer had been trained. You can really see Arthur holding himself back for just yelling at Cobb.
When Ariadne wonders if Arthur just doesn't see it or doesn't care, I think he does see it - evidenced by the fact that he thinks the reason Cobb doesn't build any more has something to do with Mal - he just doesn't know the extent of it. Unless you go into Cobb's dreams how are you going to know how Cobb is trying to wall her up? Also, now do you get someone like Cobb to open up? They are obviously good friends but Cobb still comes across as the boss, so how do you tell your friend that he's losing it?
I also love how, after Ariadne yells about her being a piece of work, Arthur is so blase about it and then goes into explaining about totems. Totally made me laugh.
Unlike when I watched this is the States, Saito's line about buying the airline got a loud laugh. I also love the look on Eames's face. He's kind of impressed despite himself.
Question: When Eames is being part of Browning's staff, where is he? Because, they are planning this is in Paris, yes? Or did they move warehouse and not tell us? Because I got the impression that the Fischers' were in Australia, so Eames flew to Oz for a while, yes?
Question two: When they actually do the job, they have to fly to Sydney to fly to LA with Fischer, right? So they flew from France to Australia to LA. Or an I missing something huge?
Question three: This was pretty much Eames's plan, right? He came up with the use of the relationship with the father and then expanded on it as he watched Browning, Fischer Jr and Fischer Snr and refined it in the actual dreams.
Another important thing I focused on was how often Eames was clean shaven, had a five o'clock shadow and with stubble. Because, in Yusaf's dream he is as he is in real life, in Arthur's dream he has stubble and in his own dream he is cleanly shaven...more or less. Or am I reading WAY too much into this?
And Eames not remembering if the price on Cobb's head is dead or alive and advising seeing if they start shooting. Oh Eames *loves*
I still LOVE the moments of interaction between Arthur and Eames. OBVIOUSLY!!!
The moment Eames kicks Arthur's chair just makes me laugh. The fact that Arthur manages to not fall on his arse really impresses me. If someone had ever done that to me (I was terrible for pushing back on two legs at school) I would totally have crashed backwards).
And then Eames just standing around, watching Yusaf push Arthur over is adorable. He's just so obviously enjoying it. And is just back from observing Browning for a few days and wants something to amuse himself with?
And they do so like each other. If you truly hate someone you don't banter with them. I have friends where a good portion of our friendship is the sarcastic banter and seeing who comes out on top in any given conversation.
Their little bit about Arthur wanting 'specificity' and Eames just being all WTF made me giggle.
In the cab, when, after some very badass smashing of cars to get them out of the trap, and Arthur asks Eames if he's okay, the tone Eames answers in is, in my opinion, definitely the kind you use on a friend to reassure them that you're not, you know, bleeding to death in the back of a car.
And the teasing/reassuring banter before Arthur put Eames under nearly made me squee (only the fact that my brother was sitting next to me and would have hit me stopped me - in fact, he told me in no uncertain terms that if I made mention of any slash before the end of the film, he'd definitely hit me. It worries me that my brother knows me this well: I hadn't even made mention of the slash potential in this movie around him).
This doesn't really fit in with anything, but I do love Eames's smile as Fischer opens the safe, just before he blows the building to hell. Also, his hair isn't slicked back or anything and I just want to ruffle it *g*
Talking about my brother, when Cobb went to find Saito and they are talking about being young men together, he did lean over to me and say 'this isn't at all homoerotic, is it?' to me *laughs* I do love my brother *g*
I dunno if anyone else has noticed this, but Marion Cotillard is bloody gorgeous. That dress she is wearing in the hotel room. Wow.
I know I want to go and see Salt, The Expendable and, when it finally comes out here, Scott Pilgrim, but, damn, I want to see this AGAIN!!!
