Wow, so I just found a load of stuff on my computer, reviews and views of TV shows, old and new.
So, I thought I’d just post them in their incomplete forms for the pure hell of it.
So, I’m re-watching season one of Due South. Now, I know that the preferred pairing is Fraser/Ray K, but damn, it’s nearly impossible to not to see Fraser/Ray V.
I mean, they are so comfortable with each other and Fraser is so remarkably clueless when it comes to women. He sees it coming even less than John Sheppard does.
After getting covered in garbage, Ray is showering while Benny is in the bathroom, just talking about the case. He had no problem with Benny being there, but freaks out when his mom, sisters and brother-in-law come in at various times.
Ray’s mother seems to know Benny really well, suggesting that Benny goes round there a lot.
Fraser trusts Ray to go check on Diefenbaker and Diefenbaker is more than happy to let Ray put a leash on him and take him out to for a walk. And Ray allows Fraser to drive his beloved car.
Ray knows Fraser’s work schedule.
First we see Ray round at Benny’s, ordering pizza, and as far as I can see there is no reason for Ray to be round at Benny’s. And then they go out for a Chinese meal together.
Ray has near blind trust in Fraser, and although he protests so much, he is always there backing him up. He protests that Fraser keeps embarrassing him at the police dept, but still keeps helping Benny.
And don’t get me started on how, by the second episode, Ray was already calling Benton, Benny, and as far as I can tell, the only one to do that.
Then there’s the fact that when Ray accepts calls from Fraser, he acts more as if it’s a girlfriend
Ray also knows the differences between Fraser’s uniforms
And apparently Ray spends so much time with Fraser that people know that his car in connected with ‘the mountie’
I really could just keep listing all the ways that Benny and Ray V are so doing it, but it’ll take a couple of years that I’ll stop now.
And, ignoring the slashy potential of the show, I just love the show. I’d forgotten how brilliant it is. There are some interesting plot inconstancies with some episodes, but they are always well written, the dialogue is snappy and some of the one-liners are fabulous.
Okay, so I have yet to see the episode of Moonlight that makes me love it. I like it well enough, but I don’t know, there’s just not that “something” that makes it compulsive viewing.
I think my biggest problem is I don’t like the two main leads. Mick or Beth. Well, actually that’s not true. I like Mick when he’s talking to Josef, and generally when he’s on a case, but not when he’s talking to Beth. I see no chemistry. Their beats just don’t quite connect, it’s just slightly off. Whereas Mick and Josef, well, they just work. They have an obvious connection, an obvious closeness that Beth/Mick can’t even begin to get close to.
Beth, Beth I just dislike. I find her shallow, really, really shallow. And the actress just isn’t convincing enough for me. She just comes across as a major bitch. I don’t get why people (in the show) like her.
You know what really makes me dislike Mick and Beth the most? The way they are treating Josh. Mick doesn’t seem all that bothered that Beth’s supposed to be in a long term relationship which annoys me but I can kind of understand. But worse is Beth. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by the way she’s treating him, someone she’s supposed to love. She gets all defensive when he gets upset and/or angry that she’s spending so much time with Mick. She acts as if he’s the one in the wrong when she is. And as far as I can tell she has no problems with the way she’s acting - there’s no damn angst. She isn’t even slightly messed up inside about the fact that she is cheating on him with Mick. It doesn’t endear me to the character at all.
They kissed for crying out loud. And it’s like it never happened. Not in the sense of characters trying to pretend that there isn’t a huge elephant in the room, but more like it hasn’t altered their interaction in the slightest.
She has no concept of what she’s doing. She doesn’t seem to understand that vampires are fucking dangerous and that maybe she should listen to the people who know a little bit more about this that she does. She reminds me of Owen from Buffy. The only difference being that Buffy knew that Owen would never get the dangers of what she did whereas Beth’s stupidity doesn’t seem to worry Mick at all.
And also, her job. She’s a hack, pure and simple. She seems to have no basic morality. She really will do anything for a story. I’m sure we’re supposed to get a bit pissed with the police officer guy for being prissy with her but I can’t believe her walking all over crime scenes like they aren’t important. I swear the only reason she doesn’t get thrown in jail is because her boyfriend is a DA.
And something that bugged me from the pilot. When Mick gives her the file, she gets all angry and ‘woe is me’ and ignores the file. If it were me, and someone was suggesting that a good friend of mine might be in danger, I’d be all about getting somewhere to read the file. Where’s her normal curiosity?
Okay, so I’m watching the one where Josef gets Mick to look for some vampire chick who stole a lot of money from him.
And humans getting a high off vampire blood? So got from Charlaine Harris’s Sookie books.
Beth has just tried to sneak into a club undercover. How can a reporter on the net and TV even begin to think that she could sneak *eyeroll*
And I know, lets phone up Mick from right outside your boyfriend’s office to tell him information that is going to reflect badly on Josh
I do like Lola though. She’s great. Mick is getting all beat up by her. It’s fabulous to watch. Oh, except she’s just got beat due to come good luck.
What I do like are all the secondary characters. If they could have more screen time, I’d be much happier.
Josef is totally my favourite. He is so good at being all old-worldy. Despite never having seen him in his vampire face, I find him far more convincing as a vampire than Mick. He just seems to get it better.
And the guy who is Beth’s camera man occasionally, the one who played Marshall in Alias, I like him too.
And I like Josh. I have a feeling he is going to be royally fucked over though.
I’ve missed Veronica Mars. I watched the first episode of season three yesterday. And, damn, but did I enjoy it. I read all the spoilers last year as it came out, so I have a vague idea of what’s to come. Although, honestly? I never remember spoilers. For a girl who remembers nearly every book she’s ever read, and a good proportion of the fanfic, I have a terrible memory for spoilers.
Not a huge fan of the new title sequence. I have to admit. They are trying to go all grown up, aren’t they?
I’m disconcerted seeing Logan so well adjusted. Happy, it nice that he’s not all self destructive, but so strange. Logan has been destructive for so long now that I’d kind of forgotten that he could be anything else. Still, I reckon his line after answering the phone to Keith was the best of the episode. Generally, I think Logan is the best thing of pretty much any episode.
Wallace, well, he didn’t really do anything, did he? Apart from acquire a roommate who has a big old crush on Veronica...
Still love Mac. She’s just made of awesome.
Dick. Wow - yeah, talk about messed up. Logan being all concerned for him was adorable and the hug, when Dick came to him all beaten and at his lowest - kind of sweet
Not a huge fan of Parker - but, uh, she got raped. I knew that, so it wasn’t a huge shock. What I can’t remember for the life of me, is who raped her
So, yeah, I think I’ll be downloading the next episode *g*
The use of the chess as you see each person get shot makes SO much more sense the second time through
Wow, Charlie is doing an FBI course? I must admit I wondering if, after nearly getting rammed off the road a few episodes ago, he was going to maybe do something about becoming just a little more capable at certain things, because, most of the time it’s fine but every now and again he gets into trouble and Don isn’t always there to do his thing
Why aren’t I surprised that Alan appears at the words ‘firearms training’
Oh, I like that titbit of info - Charlie has been bugging Don for a while about such a thing and Don’s been stalling until he couldn’t take Charlie bugging him about it for a moment longer
I really like this family moment
I’m noticing that Colby often puts his gun down the back of his pants - I have no problem with that. It’s not. As is Colby *g*
Is that the same Robin as before? Because I didn’t recognise her. Of course, it could just be she wasn’t in it enough before, but I’m not sure
So, the writer’s are trying to explore Don and his relationships, right? He’s got his team and family relationships pretty much sorted for Don, so I guess we’re moving onto the romantic, you know, after that thing with Liz didn’t work out. You know, I kind of miss her. I’d quite like them to bring her back, if only for one episode
Charlie checks the mirror before chasing a suspect - bless. Concepts of the really world aren’t is strong suit, are they? On the other hand, he only just his driver’s license, right? Perhaps we shouldn’t be so keen to stop him practicing something it took him a while to get in the first place
The music that goes with this sense is brilliant
‘You just killed a mailbox - keep your eyes on the road’
Charlie not knowing it’s a Ford and then killing the cardboard people. Hilarious. I love that entire scene
Don laughing it up with gang member number two was great, as was the way he just morphed into threatening him, equally great
This is the second episode in a row that David has cracked on Colby. First his was his reasons for not getting a girl - lack of social skills. And now it’s that he’s ‘not smooth’ Colby’ll be thinking David doesn’t love him at this rate *g*
I like the kid. And he makes money from playing chess
Not surprised Colby told him how smooth his not connecting with the kid, was
How Larry to defy expectations - Holmes not Newton
Go Larry - knows the chain of Command of the Enterprise. Even Amita looked bemused. Megan looked fond. Love it
David going to Alan for chess advice is cool. Although I don’t know how he thinks he’s going to learn anything in an afternoon - chess really isn’t think kind of a game
Six months? It was that long? I didn’t know
Okay, so I get why Robin is pissed, but if she thinks she wouldn’t do the same if Don had apparently been getting and sending emails about a big case, then she’s wrong. She wouldn’t be doing her job if she didn’t look into it
Oh, mention of Colby not being a spy. I always like it when they reference back to these kinds of things
I love the way Don walks into Charlie’s view after he’s been thrown to the ground. I always like those kinds of shots. Like the one in A Knight’s Tale
Ah, Don’s advice to Charlie in Elementary school was to shake hands and kick them in the balls. Why doesn’t this surprise me?
Megan laughing at the boys is always fun - mostly because I’m generally laughing too
I think I have a thing for shoulder holsters - first Tony on NCIS and how Megan on Numb3rs
Colby sounds fatigued after finding Reggie and Angie
Charlie in full takedown gear is just the cutest thing ever. And then telling Don and David what a hostile takedown was. Bless. And waving the gun about and the pair of them laughing. I’m loving the team and family feel in this one
Although, Charlie, hon, waving the gun around the air, not a good idea
Wonder if Colby saw him dressed like that? *ponders*
Robin has a nice house - shame she can’t go there because she’s next on the list
Love Don’s random mention of his shrink, and saying he said he was a bastard. Great. Although it really made him think when she mentioned the whole ‘can you say you’re wrong yet’
Aw, Charlie - thinking he’s out of his depth and worrying he’s going to tarnish Don’s reputation
Larry, as always you give the best advice
Oh dear, David, if you don’t know White starts a game of chess he’s in real trouble - oh, look at that, checkmate
Do you think he told Colby he was going down to the park to lose lots of money to a 14 year old boy
David talking from experience or witnessing it happen to other people - or even a bit of both
Don really fell for her, huh?
Charlie firing a gun is, well, hot. Sometimes shallow, is shallow *g*
Wyatt Earp - Charlie, you so rock - bet Don loves that story when he hears it
I’m impressed that two gang members thought up a code involving chess. I know I couldn’t - and remember what it all meant
Jimmy saw the assassin in the jug. Not entirely hapless - and he even gets to call it in. Awesome
Although there is an amazing lack of FBI agents around the place, aren’t there?
Yes, Robin, run towards the ship with the loud music where they won’t be able to hear you
Go timely rescue, Don
Seeing David affected by Bishop is telling, apart from his friend, he rarely lets himself become involved in a case
Fabulous advice, Colby - change the ending, stop pretending you don’t give a crap
Oh, so perhaps Charlie’s FBI stuff might help him in cases to come - like this time
Oh, and Charlie being the one to come in and have the thought that solves the problem is new. Normally it’s either Larry or Amita who says something to Charlie and that creates the solution
And Amita knowing which move it is, is great, especially since neither Charlie or Larry argue with her
You know, I wondered why the gang didn’t go after Bishop, and I realised that they hadn’t seen the book yet. I’m occasionally not that good at using my brain
Oh, David all getting hardass - this is brilliant. He’s ever so slightly awesome. Not a man to mess with
And Bishop looks slightly confused that David is standing up for him so much
Aw, Colby’s first port of call is asking David if he’s okay
And that look that the receptionists, as Don and Robin get the key and go back to the room, is great. They so know what is going on
Everyone runs when Charlie picks up the gun
And the end, I kind of love it. I like the idea of David mentoring him, taking him under his wing and then Bishop teaching him the basics of chess
I still can’t quite get over the fact that Zoe Slater is the Bionic Woman. It’s strange
So, they’ve got half of BSG guest starring
Ah, the kid sister has “issues”
And I’m pretty sure she does a terrible American accent
Pregnant - okay, wow. Marriage. So, he’s going to be dead soon, right?
Oh yeah, dead
But, boy, that’s Starbuck. I thought she died in the first 30 seconds. Obviously a bullet in the chest and one in the head isn’t enough to kill her
Oooo, boyfriend is a special surgeon - and not dead. This is how Jamie becomes a bionic woman
Those noises as Starbuck walked up the stairs sounded like Cylons
Jamie has very unblemished and unmarked skin after being in a accident (okay, that actually makes sense now, never mind)
Um, he didn’t think that that would freak her out. Didn’t think restraints might be a good idea just in case she lost it? Wow, completely didn’t think that one through, did they? And even now, they still don’t have restraints on her and let a nurse in there, unaccompanied. Stupid
The organisation is interesting. Blonde girl. Training guy. And boyfriend (with a past, evidently)
Oh, finally, they got guards on her
So, Blondie is called Ruth and she reminds me of Georga from Ally McBeal
Anyone else thinking the security breach is Jamie? Oh, it’s Will breaking out Jamie. Fair enough. Is this going to be when she realises just what she can do?
I get that it might be a bit freaky, but, really, she’s too fricking emo for me. Just too Zoe Slater
Oh, and that trying out of her powers like that, so very Spiderman
And now there’s Chief - definitely a Cylon - he knows where Earth is
And Crikey, another BSG person - also Badger off Firefly, and, oh, it’s Will’s father. Interesting
Hey, her eyes are coming online - cool
I have to admit that I’m not a fan of the effects as she discovers her various powers
Katee Sackoff is definitely the best thing in this show
So, not only does she get implants, but she also knows how to kill people. How?
Oh, microchips in her brain. How very...Matrix of them
She has superhuman strength - is sex really such a good idea?
Are such big windows really such a good idea?
Since he got shot, I’m thinking maybe not
I’m thinking Sarah still has feelings for the training guy
Why the fuck would you give someone a timeout?
I really do love Katee in this, I really do
You know, Jamie should really be getting killed by Sarah. Not only done Sarah have the implants, she was a soldier, so really, Jamie, with her whole not knowing what she’s doing thing with her new powers, should be way overwhelmed and easily beaten
You know, ignorant and bloody-minded, and refusing to listen to reason, doesn’t equal a strong, confident woman, who’s independent. It really doesn’t. As far as I can see, no-one has told Jamie the stakes of the game she’s playing and she hasn’t thought to ask, or to find out what’s going on. All she’s thinking about is herself and while I think that’s totally understandable reaction, it still pisses me off because of the way the writers are trying to frame it
So, yeah, really underwhelmed by that
