Well when I think of "third rail" I think of commuter trains/subways/etc. that have that third rail in the middle that carries an electrical charge, and if you touch it you're electrocuted and die.
yeah, what you said!4133matisseMay 30 2008, 16:31:10 UTC
Agree 100%!!! Have you also come across those who say they won't vote for Obama because he is too articulate? That one has been rendering me completely IN-articulate! Someone please explain!

I went on my walk right after I posted, and while trudging up the hill, I suddenly remembered about the"elitism" thing I should have added to my list. So I've updated my original post.
I do think that the sexism has been far more blatant and less criticised than the racism, but both have been in plentiful supply from supporters of both. AND (this is key) neither has come directly from the candidates themselves (with the exception of Obama's "sweetie" thing.)
And I really don't understand why supporters of EITHER candidate would refuse to vote or vote McCain or third-party. It's pointless, childish and self-centered.
Exactly, and feeds into all sorts of sexist stereotypes of women. Believe me, if we have women (Hillary) who can vote us unto war, women (Condi Rice) who can keep us in one, and numerous women to choose from for Vice President from the gubernatorial ranks, then it's just a matter of time now before we have our first woman President. All in good time.

PS: Fifth Column -- turns out I was getting it confused with the Fourth Estate.

Well, that's validating. I thought maybe I was the only one confused. And as an "élite," I expect myself to know these things.
Will you be my running mate?
