I don't feel like Hillary's campaign coverage was astoundingly sexist. No more than coverage of Obama's was racist.
As for the Clinton supporters who say now they're going to vote for McCain. B'zuh? That's like saying, "I loved the place where I bought my shoes. If I can't buy my shoes there, then I'm going to shoot myself in the foot."
I think the hysterical response of Hillary supporters has been worse for the feminist cause than any sexist coverage she may have received.
I don't feel offended when Republicans refer to it as the "Democrat Party" rather than the "Democratic Party." Who gives a fuck?
And what's wrong with being an "élite"? As I understand it, the term is being used as double-speak for "intelligent and articulate." Why shouldn't we have someone intelligent and articulate as President? Haven't we "élites" suffered enough?
I'm tired of criticism of Israel being equated with anti-semitism.
I have never understood, and have always confused with each other, the terms "third rail," "fourth estate," and "fifth column." Explain please.
As much as I would like to see a female running mate for Obama, I kind of feel that that ship has sailed and that Hillary has spoiled it for all women for the rest of the election cycle. So my picks for running mate?
1) Barney Frank - he's experienced, Jewish, gay, funny, and knows economics like nobody's business.
But okay, let's be more realistic:
2) Right now I'm really liking Jim Webb. He can cross party lines (was Secretary of the Navy under Reagan); articulate, his military credentials are impeccable AND his son fought in Iraq. 'Nuff said. I think he balances out Obama's weaknesses (experience and dealing with war) and his strengths (ability to work collegially and across party lines) very well.
