At Last, a Cure for the Common Cold

Apr 28, 2008 12:20

When we went to Monterey last week, my niece had laryngitis and was on the mend from a cold. Sure enough, on Wednesday or Thursday last week, I came down with it (she claims it was her evil twin sister who gave it to me.) I had a nasty sore throat and painful cough and laryngitis and felt general crappy and run down all the way through yesterday morning. Then I took a nap from about 11:00 until about 4:30. When I woke up, Geoff went out and brought me back a Frappuccino from Starbucks. By 5:00, I was feeling so much better! Today, I'm still symptomatic, but I think I'm on the mend.

So, if you're looking for a cure for the common cold this is it: a nap and a frappuccino. I call it the "Nappuccino Cure." Highly recommended.

We had a lovely visit with xclairedelune and Mr. Xclaire (also known as my mom and dad) Thursday through Sunday (remarkably, the exact same days I was sick.) It was The Spawn's 9th birthday as well as very close to my dad's birthday (his is on the 30th). So we had a sort of rolling celebration with present openings on consecutive days, cake and ice cream, etc. The Spawn got a new bike for his birthday, and that was his primary gift. He was too big for his old bike, and it didn't have gears, which is a problem now because his route to school has some hills and he has to get off his bike to get up them. He has a little bit of a learning curve still to get with the gear-shifting program. Also, the bike is big, and he has a little fear factor of falling off it, so it's going to be a few more days, I think, before he's ready to ride it to school.

The garden is looking so beautiful right now, I wish you all could see it. Here are some favorites:

Columbine:

and Herbaceous Peony: "Hawaiian Pink Coral"

I also have some lovely California Poppies posted over at poppiespoppies
