Birthdays and Good Wishes
Well, it's got to be said: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IOAN!!!
And even though I don't have a reason to celebrate like he does, I feel like I got a gift anyway; I found out his fans are wonderful.
So I went over to Ioanzone to see if and how they were marking the date. As it turns out, only one person noted the date (in the public forums, at least), and they "marked" it by making an extremely passive-aggressive suggestion that to celebrate his birthday, Ioan should consider apologizing to everyone involved with Ioan Online. It has been four years since that happened; the moment for statements has passed (sorry, Michael Sheen).
Anyway, so I wasn't exactly thrilled to see sniping like that. But I went back a few hours later...and the message was gone. Either the moderators deleted it, or they asked the person in question to remove it. It made me happy to know that this sort of behavior isn't tolerated on that site. Really, I don't know what's holding me back from joining; everything I've seen on there has been nothing but friendly. Thanks, guys, for giving me hope that I'm not alone out here.
Enough of that, though; onto something more cheerful. I'd like to share with you the latest Ioan picture that I've been obsessing over. But it's not because he looks great in it (he does, but that's not the main reason). It's the story behind it.
Annees on IMDB linked to a photographer's blog a little while back. Turns out this was the photographer who took the photos for Ioan and Alice's wedding, and it included this photo:
Maybe it's just me, but knowing the story behind this one makes it even more beautiful to me. The black and white and suit porn gives it a classic, elegant feel, but knowing that this is (probably) shot a little before the wedding gives it another tone entirely. I look at the picture, knowing what I know, and I can see his wedding nerves in his face and body language, and there's something wonderfully human about that.
(Forgive me for all this lyricism; I read an absolutely beautiful poem by Robert Frost today and it put me in a creative mood).
Long story short; thank you, moderators of Ioanzone and the photographer of this pic, for making me smile.
