“Leave.”
Eyes hard, expression rigid, body undefined. One hand grasped the door’s bulk while the other swung loosely at the waist. I glanced at you one last time before adjusting the grip on my black suitcase, and heading out.

I think that hurt you far more than it did me…

“He just brushed you off?” Uruha’s voice slurred.
He was nearing his limit in sake.
“Yeah…he didn’t even hear me out…”
The other snorted. “Well Hell, I wouldn’t have either.”
My somewhat shocked eyes traveled to his frame.
“I mean…you haven’t seen him in 3 years right?” he rhetorically asked. “And since that’s the case, you just showing up at his doorstep unannounced defiantly opened up old wounds.”
He took another swig of sake then shoved the glass aside, awaiting the next round.
“Still…” I shuffled. The words my friend spoke were of truth, but me being...well... me refused to back down. “He didn’t even call me by my name, didn’t even ask how I’ve been…”
“Old wounds,” Uruha chimed mouth full of that bitter, clear liquid.
I stayed silent; lips sealed from the reluctant release of acceptance.
Before the other could reach for another round of sake, I pulled money out of my pocket and handed it over to the bar tender.
“My friend’s done for today,” I said, firmly grasping Uruha’s wrist and peeling him from the barstool.
“Fine, fine,” he drawled, dimmed eyes looking heavy-lidded. “But if you still want to get together with this man, then you need to approach this in a different way entirely.”
I dipped my head in silent acquiesce and shoved the wobbling body into a hailed cab.
“Be safe Uruha.”
The other nodded; the subject dropped as the yellow door created a narrow barrier between him and I.
The window of the cab rolled down just as my body shifted to walk away. A ‘what’ of question nearly escaped my parted lips, but the look on the other’s face kept the word in my throat.
Eyes dark and sparkling with alert, no longer fogged or heavy-lidded from the potent sake. The deep, black orbs filled with some emotion; a familiar emotion.
The window rolled up, gaze vanished, and the car jolted to a start, disappearing around a nearby corner.
“What were you so sad about?” I uttered. Turning down the sidewalk, I began my walk home.
