Lately I've been more and more bothered by how rude people are, both online and in real life. Especially when it comes to people that talk about good things that happens to them or just re-telling something that they've experienced. Some people are plain mean when they write a comment or sometimes just do their own post just to say something negative about someone.
I feel so sad when I see things like that. What point does it even have? What does it give someone to be rude and hurt someone's feelings? Maybe I'm being a bit too naive when I hope for a world where we can all be nice to each other and spread happiness instead of hate. Isn't it much nicer to say something supportive and nice to someone? To see - or in today's modern world - read how your nice words made him or her happy.
This all makes me hesitant to share good things with people. The simple thing of saying that I'm having a good day or that I'm feeling happy is something that I most of the time don't do since I know that there's a possibility that someone might say something negative back. That my happiness can be turned against me and instead make me feel bad about the fact that I feel good.
Take today for example, I found out I got a B on my home exam I did a few weeks ago. It's the highest grade we can get, and I'm really happy that I managed to reach that. I really didn't expect it and it was such a nice addition to a nice day. I posted to twitter and tumblr about it, basically saying “yay” and “I'm having a good day”, and I got back a few negative remarks along the lines of “how I shouldn't rub my success in other people's faces” and “bet you cheated”. To me, sharing positive things is not bragging. Of course it all depends on how you say it, but in most instances people don't brag, they share.
If this is an indication on how our world is changing, I don't want any part of it. Like I said, I want a world where we're nice to each other. Where compliments aren't a rare occurrence and people can enjoy other people's happiness as well as their own.
Today I'm happy. And if something made you happy today, smile because it's wonderful and don't let anyone take that away from you.
