General: Adrian's biggest strength is his confidence. He has faith in his abilities and trusts himself to be able to handle whatever life throws at him. Unfortunately his confidence is probably also his greatest weakness; he comes across as cocky, has been known to overestimate himself, and as a result tends to wind up in over his head. Though he's mostly grown out of it by now, when he was younger he had a big mouth and got into fights quite frequently.
He's also a speed demon, self-confessed adrenaline junkie, and has an absolute passion for piloting. He loves what he does. His only regret is that his work means he has to be away from his son. He has a strong - if occasionally unconventional - moral compass, and would have great difficulty in staying silent in the face of something he considered to be wrong.
Goals/Dreams: None, really. He's happy where he is.
Quirks/Habits: He still wears his wedding ring despite the divorce, though he's switched it to his right hand to avoid confusion.
First Impression: Loud, kind of cocky, smiles a lot

Personal History: Adrian was born on MX-439, a station on the Martian moon Deimos which mainly served as a refuelling and supply stop for ships mining the asteroid belt. MX-439 was one of the older Mars Stations, and by the standards of the Sol system both old and economically precarious[1]. Much of the non-essential equipment was near obsolete, particularly replicators and other amenities, and the lack of funds to expand the station had led to strict controls on populations growth. His father was a dockworker and his mother a maintenance tech. He and his brother Peter were born a year apart; though their mother had wanted a daughter, the family couldn't afford the penalties that more children would incur.
Adrian and Peter were very close growing up. They spent much of their time at the station docks watching ships come and go, exploring the network of maintenance shafts, and generally getting into places they weren't supposed to be. Both were injury-prone, adventurous, and though they had a relatively happy childhood were both keen to get off the tiny station they lived on and get out to explore the universe. In 2244 both boys left home within weeks of each other - Adrian graduated from high school and was accepted into Starfleet's pilot training program, while Peter dropped out of school and signed on with a passing mining ship.
After graduating from the Academy, Adrian was assigned to the USS Heriott as it prepared to leave on its five-year mission. He served for the full five years, and on the Heriott's return to Earth was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the USS Veridian. His time on the Veridian, unfortunately, was short: on a routine mission to explore an uncharted planet, the away team from the Veridian was attacked by technologically advanced and hostile natives who were able to jam the transporters. Adrian volunteered for the rescue mission. His shuttle was attacked by enemy craft and shot down. The Veridian's engineers were able to unjam the transporters and rescue the stranded crewmembers, but Adrian was injured beyond the ship medical unit's capacity to treat. He was put on medical leave and sent back to Earth to recuperate.
While on medical leave on Earth he met
Leigh-Anne Harper[2], a Starfleet physicist who was recuperating in the same medical facility after a transporter accident had caused nerve damage, and they began dating. They married after Leigh-Anne found out she was pregnant; at this point she had taken a research position at Starfleet Academy, and Adrian was working as a test pilot at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards. Their son Dom was born a few months later.
Before too long, however, they came to realise that other than their son they didn't really have very much in common. They stayed together for a time purely for the sake of convenience. Eventually Leigh-Anne met someone else, and they finally separated. The divorce was amicable. Shortly afterward Adrian was transferred to the Enterprise.
