As INTJs we are supposed to be unusual (warped?) in our sense of humour amongst other things. This raises the question... What types of entertainment do you like in terms of books/comics/music/movies? dislike?
How are we different from other types in our choices?
(I'm asking this partly because I'm curious and partly to get ideas.)
Books - I love well written science fiction and fantasy. My choice of non-fiction depends on what I'm interested in at the time. I will often read many books on the same topic but from different perspectives. I like fiction authors such as Arthuro Perez-Reverte and my choice in humour runs to Christopher Moore and Terry Pratchett. Chicken-soup-for-the-[insert soul here] and romance novels are evil crap.
Comics - Pretty much web comics only. (I like
Something*Positive and
Sluggy Freelance) I find most newspaper strips to be bland and boring. I prefer the long complex story arc over the one shot joke (unless it's a really good one shot). I hate how newspapers require comics to be sanatized down to the lowest common denominator so as not to give offense.
Music - Eclectic. I do prefer complexity though.
Movies - Big flashy adventure movies staring a quasi or anti-hero, such as Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. Small complex movies with twists, such as Memento, Primer, and Shadow of the Vampire. Terrible cheesie movies, such as Army of Darkness and Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. And the Princess Bride. I avoid hollywood comedies, romantic movies, cute movies, horror movies, and based-on-a-true-story.
So, overall, I prefer complexity, speculation, irony/cynicism, imagination, and good craftmanship in my entertainment. I tend to avoid excessive emotional displays (especially embaressment), cuteness, predictability, and chicken-soup.
