So Sad
I had been ill myself and sleeping late this morning, so came late to the news that's all over my flist and FB and twitter and gmail, that Diana Wynne Jones has died. I've only wept at the deaths of three other authors: Tolkien, Lloyd Alexander, and Madeleine L'Engle, but I did shed a few tears at this news. It feels like a personal loss, even though I never actually met her. Maybe because so many of my friends did know her personally. Deirdre Baker wrote to me this morning that she imagines Diana somewhere in one of her own alternate universes, continuing to laugh and tell stories. I hope so.
