Spring

I considered today effectively the first real day of spring. To celebrate I went out and played some tennis. I'm no good at tennis, really, but I do enjoy playing it nonetheless.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought it was insane that an Iraqi coming to the U.S. would be designated a terrorist for having fought against Saddam Hussein. It looks like, after the original Post story, the guys at DHS have pulled their heads out of their asses long enough to try to fix their nonsensical branding of people as members of undesignated terrorist organizations. Perhaps in the future they could just ask these people to remove their shoes?

One of the things that really struck me about that story was the fact that apparently all that was necessary to be considered an undesignated terrorist organization was for that organization to have fought against their government. If we are calling anyone who fights against their government a terrorist (one of the worst labels we can apply in the eyes of many) that's not only inaccurate but it seems like it places us a damned long way from the country whose leaders once said things like, The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
