I have to say, our last gaming session was the most fun I've had yet at being a GM.
My intrepid band of heros made it past the Gargoyles. They ran, and they rolled well. All except Guy's (Austin) bodyguard. He rolled two ones on one of his rolls, so said Gargoyle dragged him over the cliff. Austin thought I was killing his body guard, but

I'm not including so many personal elements as you are, because my group is lazy and don't know the system, so most of the backgrounds they have are from the Sorte spreads, and they've left them to me to figure out. I'm going to try to set up one character's "hunted" future on Friday, and a relative of another will be at Heilgrundstat when they get there.
Actually, I think you'll like this -- I have an NPC who was Dominique's personal doctor, sent with the group to keep them alive. She has made friends with Bob, the large gay Crescent sailor. In the army camp, she's going to run into a friend of the Montaigne noble who thinks he's going to marry her. When she tells him that she's not going back to Montaigne, he's going to get aggressive. Hopefully Bob will step in, causing the soldier to report back to his friend that she's left him for (big gay) Bob... causing hunting and hilarity.
Anyway, at least three people are having fun. One other is very quiet, but he's always like that, so we just assume he's enjoying himself or he wouldn't show up. I have one problem player who doesn't like the system very much (then again, the only system he seems to like at all is d20, so what can you do?) and complains a lot. But he's going to have to suck it up and deal unless he can stage a successful coup.
I'm not in love with Scoundrel's Folly, so I'm going to push them through it to get to Arrow of Heaven, which I AM in love with.
Oh, and by the way (because it's funny) -- while you're looking forward to getting the ship from your old game into the story, I'm very carefully NOT getting the ship and captain from the previous game into mine... no matter how much the former GM pushes :)

I like your story. Any hero worth his salt will of course step in.
I had the most brilliant idea this morning.....I think that the reason Tim's parents got killed is that someone knew that Tim existed and found out where he was and came for him. To kill him. But his parents got wind of it and sent all three kids away for safekeeping, and when the men came to find Tim and found him gone, they killed his parents in an attempt to find the kids. And somehow, Tim's brother found all this out, and will tell him when they meet. Whoot! It's a good story.
