The third hell of Dante's Inferno exists to punish those whose greatest vice, while on this great earth, was lust. Souls who embraced their desires, overcome by passion. Wanting, needing, and above all, going after their needs and desires - even and perhaps especially above, over, and against more reasonable, balanced judgement.
