Before you say it, I will go ahead and admit I am a loser. Yes, I, for the most part, have no social life during the week. It might be because I work full time and wake up at 6 a.m. each morning... and/or it might be because I'm a Grade A Gina Rhymes. For Monday and Tuesday nights I hang out with the gang from Laguna Beach, the (very unlikeable) Real World cast, and the ridiculous 70's people too. So before you read this and call me names, know that I am aware of my doucheyness.

On to my spill about the Real World, Austin: "the One Where His Mom Dies"

Now, call me Old-Fashioned, but I subscribe to the school of beliefs that something so traumatic and personal as, hmmm..., your Mom dying should not be aired as a spectacle for millions of 14-30 year olds on National TV (and on MTV at that). I'm not trying to be insensitive, but to me Danny his milking this 'tragedy' for all that it's worth for some extra camera time. And I will give you the reasons I believe Danny is a famewhore:

1) The reaction of his Dad and sister to his reaction to the news.

I'm pretty positve his father would have sounded more distraught calling to tell Danny that the Boston Red Sox went on strike for the season. The only emotion I could actually detect was utter confusion at Danny's reaction. He seemed a little weirded out that Danny started crying. His sister sounded the exact same way.
We learned at the start of the season that Danny had no relationship with his Mom. It makes sense. Growing up she was a drug addict and pretty much a dead beat Mom, apparently. We saw a clip of him talking to his Mother four days earlier and it was clearly evident that he had little sympathy for her, and to me she actually sounded kind of sickly. (I know she died of a heart attack and she wasn't dying from cancer or anything but... for some reason I'm thinking she had been in the hospital or some kind of clinic. Was this discussed at the start of the season or did I dream it?) Based on this alone, it kinda seems like Danny was doin' a little acting.

2) Some may say, the producers and directors and editors are just using the death to pull in more viewers. "Danny had to let them air all of this because of a contract" - you might say. Well, did Danny have to cry to some millions of viewers in the Confessional room. Surely he would have known footage filmed in the confessional is fair game. If he truly didn't want MTV to air such a dramatic event then why would he even think about entering 'the confessional'. It seems lame to me. Maybe he just doesn't care that MTV catalogs the whole deal and that death is just part of 'the Real World'. But, when "the Real World" is going out to 6th street every night and getting sloppy drunk, and having a drawer full of numbers for 'groupies', then I don't think the death of your Mom should be included in the show. I especially wouldn't let those phone calls be aired, are you kidding me?!

3)MTV is following him home to the funeral?!?! What?!?!?! Now, maybe I'm way off base, but this is crazy to me!!! I wouldn't even be surprised if we get to see the actual burial! Again, some might argue, the contract! He's under contract! Which... I would have surely thought too. We cannot forget that this is MTV. However, in the previews for next week they show Melinda whining about an EMAIL she got from Danny that says he may not be coming back to Austin. Now, if he was under such a strict contract I'm pretty sure they would not let him leave the show.

But that point also begs the question, if he leaves the show then how is he such a Famewhore?

Exactly! He would totally redeem himself. If he leaves the show, I'm probably wrong about all of this. (Although I still believe he shouldn't have been lamenting in the Confessional.) However, if he doesn't leave the show, and comes back to Austin for more Real World, well... then, I'm probably right and he sent the Email just to again, whore the camera!

I dunno. I'm an idiot.

EDITED:

Also. MTV is completely disrespecful. There is no doubt that the contract allows any footage taken in the house to be used in the show. If they did use the phone call footage without permission, it was completely insensitive. And the way they edited in the footage of the phone call that had taken place 4 days earlier was totally disrespectful if everyting Danny said was true. I do feel horrible for him for the loss. I guess really, he might just think that all of this should be aired. Maybe set an example for kids who dislike their parents. I have no idea. I guess really what my post is about is, WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THAT?! I just know I wouldn't want any of that aired and would be pissed that they could even show the stuff that was filmed in the house, much less allow for them to follow me home or enter into a confessional. I DUNNO!!! I'm confused.
