[cosplay] Mu Lan from Once Upon a Time
This was my Halloween costume this year, Mu Lan from ABC's Once Upon a Time, which Cat told us about and which we are currently making our way through season two. I really like this rendition of her armor when I first saw it on the show, and I said, I'm going to make that costume. This costume was difficult enough to challenge me while still being possible, plus how often do you get an Asian actress with a distinctive costume these days? Not that often. Then I lost my job, so that gave me time to finish by Halloween but made me too depressed (and poor) to finish a few last details. Like the uhh, bad ass chain mail helmet.
Ryan says I should do the rockstar warrior princess hairdo all the time, which I would if my hair liked volume, but it's so thin and limp from stress and doesn't like when I do things to it.
So yeah, I don't think anyone would have known who I was unless they were big Disney fans and watched family television, but it's still impressive and no one has done it to my knowledge, so I am rightfully ridiculously proud of it. I bought all those coins for the armor on Etsy, most of the leather as well, I would have liked to finish the gloves, buy a real Chinese sword and make the helmet, but... this will do.
