We magically got HBO for a day and so I promptly watched the Game of Thrones premiere and it was for the most part awesome. George R. R. Martin's constant updating about it on his LJ was no exaggeration. Now I must find a way to get HBO for free this week, or else find the episode... elsewhere... /steeples fingers
Let me tell you the tale of how I got into George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire."
I was in the local city library one day, minding my own business, looking at books and such, when I chanced upon the books for sale section, where the library pawns off outdated books and tapes or multiple copies or whatever they can come up with. Most of the time it's romances and large print mysteries, children's books and gardening guides, but undeterred, I searched for something sci-fi or fantasy to read. Then I found this uncovered book and was intrigued by the title, but as there was no cover jacket with racy pictures or titillating blurbs and glowing reviews, I just took a chance and bought it for 75 cents.
And what a 75 cents that was. Magic, murder, sex, lots of politicking that got a bit tedious later on, with a myriad of interesting characters you want to shake and say, "NO DON'T DO THAT." If you made Final Fantasy Tactics rated NC-17, you may get something like ASOIAF, it's on that level of story telling. Now, would I say it's good and recommend it to everyone? I can't honestly say that, just as I can't really recommend FF Tactics to everyone, even though I would like to. But I know I can't wait for the next book, whenever it gets released.
Yesterday was my mother's birthday, so we took her to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for some Cajun and seafood. It was expensive, but we got so much food, it fed us that night, too, haha. I got some crawfish etouffee and dirty rice, my brother and mother got a fried seafood platter. We also ate alligator and calamari. Delicious flesh of innocent animals...
I also got my birthday package from Cat! It was a treasure chest containing BPAL's Crowley scent, 2 imps, and 2 perfume bottles and some cute accessories. I need to fix one of the bottles, though.
Studying and cleaning continues, albeit slowly... Need to reserve a hotel room for the exam and see if anyone wants to go to our graduation ceremony. Anyone here interested in an invite? Kingsville is lovely this time of year... (No it's not...)
Other than that, the same old napping, avoiding work and catching Pokemon. I am in Castelia now. I shall now place an(unrelated) image here. It's brilliant.
