Me and my in-laws arrived in San Antonio earlier today. I'm here to attend my wife's graduation from Air Force Basic Military Training. I can still remember when I graduated BMT almost 6 years ago. I'm really excited because I get to see the ceremony from a different point of view. I'm also excited because my wife and I will have even more things in common. Though her graduation isn't until Friday, her family and I will get to hang out with her for the next 4 days. And then, I probably won't get to see her for another 2 months.
Rochelle and I have been together for about 7 years. And yet, we really haven't been together that long. I joined the Air Force after a year of dating, and I was away from her for 4 years in Virginia before getting re-stationed closer to home. And then for about 2 years before we got married, I'd only see her during the weekends. I made an approximate calculation of how much time I've physically been with Rochelle, and it came out to about a little over 2 years. I feel so fortunate that regardless of the distance we've had between us, she still stayed with me. And now, 3 months after our wedding, it was her turn to leave me.
So, I'll be with her for 4 days, and then she'll be gone for 2 months for technical school. Most likely, I'll get to see her during Christmas vacation before she goes to her first base. Then I'll have to wait a while before I get orders to follow her. People have criticized us before; saying it's a bad idea for both spouces to be in the military. Yet, I know so many people at my work who are dual military couples, and they seem to be alright. And if they can do it, I don't see why Rochelle and I can't. Especially because we're so used to being apart from each other.
I don't know how I'm going to react when I see her tomorrow. I'm planning on wearing my uniform. I'm scared I might lose my composure and break down at the first sight of her. On top of that, PDA is not allowed in uniform; and even if I wasn't in uniform, she has to be the entire time. Fortunately, she gets to go off base Friday and Saturday, so her family and I are going to spoil her rotten.
I guess I'll write more tomorrow.
