The Phantom of the Opera!

Today, I went and saw The Phantom of the Opera. I had been looking forward to this for a very long time. We booked the tickets months ago, as soon as we heard it was coming back to Melbourne. I woke up this morning ecstatic.

I last saw it 10 years ago when it was in Melbourne. Suffice it to say back then I absolutely enjoyed it. This time was no different, however now that I am older and more mature, my appreciation for it has increased tenfold. It was absolutely amazing! Anthony Warlow (The Phantom) and Ana Maria (Christine) are superb (as were the rest of the characters)! The music comes from the heart, and I think all who hear it feel the passion and the emotion poured into it by the cast. It's just so powerful and full of emotion. There were a number of times when I had to try to hold back tears, the music and singing struck my heart and soul. It was just sensational. It's even hard to even say what my favourite part was, as I enjoyed the entire show. The only thing that put a dampener on it was that some idiot didn't like where he was sitting and decided the he'd complain a couple of minutes before the show started, thus making it start late. He was near a pole, and reckoned that it obstructed his view (just like it someone is really tall and sits in front of you, it's called bad luck), but he went on and on, and demanded that he be given a seat at the front. All of them were taken though (as it was completely sold out - and for good reason!). He was told he could sit near the back and was given two seats up there for him and his partner. He was in our row as well, so he was going back and forward, so we all had to stand up for him each time, which was very annoying. The first half he sat up the back, and then after intermission, he came back and sat where he was originally. I tell you, some people are never happy. All they want to do is cause trouble. I wanted to say something to him, but Mum and Dad told me that I better not. Mum was going to trip him up the next time we had to stand for him so he could go wherever he had to. Though, he didn't move from his spot after intermission - thank God. After all that, and he goes back to where he was supposed to be sitting...
Anyway, Mum and Dad commented that the show was even better when they last saw it (also 10 years ago - but I went with school and Mum and Dad went together, but we had different singers). I could easily see it again, and never be bored. I also got some merchandise. I bought a pen and a t-shirt where the front has the Phantom mask which glows in the dark (which I thought was pretty cool) and the back has 'The Phantom of the Opera' written on it. It looks really good.

On Saturday it was Lan's 20th Birthday and CK's 21st. Lan did dinner with some friends and CK had a function at a city club type place. I went to Lan's first, which was pretty good. The only thing that wasn't so good was the Lan ordered a steak, medium rare, and it came out very, very rare. It almost went "moo" when he cut into it. He ate what he could, but ended up sending it back and said he didn't want a new one, but just to let them know that it was too rare. The waitress came back, and told him that he asked for rare and she confirmed with him and he said yes. We all heard him say medium rare though, and she didn't confirm anything with him. She only came around and asked who ordered a Parma. The rest of dinner went well, although Matthew complained (he wasn't going to CK's), but after CK's people were going clubbing, and Matthew wanted to go to a club, and he said that we should all go there. The thing is, it's not really up to us, it's CK's birthday, we go where he wants. After Lan and Matthew had a somewhat heated dispute (in which I tried to help solve to no avail), we left, and Lan was very angry. I told him not to worry, Matthew is just being difficult and it's his birthday, and not up to Matthew. Anyway, Lan calmed down, and we headed to CK's. We got there around 10-ish, in time for speeches, as Tim was doing a speech (and he was also at Lan's). It was good to see a whole lot of other friends we hadn't seen in a while. We had a great time. Tim was given some clothes that his friend bought him in Malaysia, so he decided to try them on. He turned around to take his top off and goes to me that he is fat, which he is not. I told him he wasn't and said he looked great, so he pushes out his stomach to make it look fat. I just laughed and said pushing it out doesn't count and went to (but stopped myself) tap his stomach jokingly. Then he wanted to try the pants on, so he goes behind the chair to take his pants off, and put on the new ones. He wanted me to stand in front, so no-one saw. I know what people are going to ask... Did I take a sneaky look? Well... Yes. Haha. He looked really good though (I mean in the new clothes...)

Anyway, after CK's, we decided to go to the Peel. I'm not the biggest fan there, but Tim and I decided to go for a bit (as I was driving him home). I had a sleeveless shirt on (in case I did end up going clubbing) so took my jacket off and chucked it in the car. It was about a 15min or so walk to the Peel from where we were, so it was pretty close. We ended up staying there a little longer than planned because it was actually really fun. Although, when we walked in, some old guy tried cracking onto Tim, and then blocked my every attempt to get closer to Tim to try and save him. I said to Tim after I should've told him to stop hitting on my boyfriend to make him go away, but oh well. We danced for a while, and even I got hit on (which rarely happens), though from one guy it was most unwelcome, and he kept trying over and over grabbing me and stuff. That was kind of annoying, but then a hot guy did (not grab me though, but dance), and that wasn't so bad. I even danced back with him, so that was a bit of fun. Tim and I left around 1:50 or so, as he had to work today, and I also had to be up in time.

Overall, I have had a fantastic weekend!

Also this week we are seeing Evan Almighty with some work friends, so that should be good. I'm looking forward to that too!
