Day 67 was once again, very good
Sorry this is 1 day late. I got home at 1am last night, and had NO energy to download the photos, edit them, then blog.
Started the day bright and early again. Caught the train this time, which is always an adventure in itself. When I got to the masterclass location, all the doors, gates and entrances were locked. Another girl from the class was behind me and we both had to search for an entrance. It took us ages, walking all around the riverbank. But we finally got in and started 'class'.
The first exercise we did was inside the enormous navy ship in the dry dock. We had to climb down the little ladders backwards to get down. Very exciting. Had much fun learning about lighting such a small, awkward space, and listened to the hilarious Grip who had film stories galore.
Next exercise was down below the ship. BELOW the ship. Not on the bottom level, but UNDER it. We had to climb down this very dangerous, rickety, and scary piece of scaffolding in order to get to the ground. Try doing that with enormous tripods, cameras and lighting equipment. Not easy. Once we were down there, it was very cool. The ship was so enormous, it was a treat to see it from below. The camera work we did involved playing with an unusual lens that had a body like a slinky. It created very cool effects.
Next was a lesson in depth of field. We didn't get to film anything in this part, but I did operate this awesome tripod with wheels. It's mainly used for action shots and sitcoms. I felt very pro operating it.
LUNCH BREAK - the sandwiches they gave us quickly were covered in ants. It was a challenge finding a bit that was covered with them.
After lunch a went back over the ship to the worksheds and experimenting with dolly shots that went from one lighting condition to another. I sat and observed this one. The rest of the people were fighting over who would sit on the 200kg dolly that went up and down in a cool fashion.
Then we went to a little room and experimented with more lights, and learnt how to light people with different skin tones, face shapes etc. Also had many laughs during this session as the cinematographer teaching us kept pretending to flirt with everyone. He was bad at it.
Last but not least was filter experiments. I operated the camera again, which is always going to be useful, but as this is Saturday when I am writing this, I have seen the footage that my group shot. Our experiment didn't go to well. haha!
I caught the train back to Petrie and met Tim there, who had a fancy new jacket just begging to be photographed. Mel arrived and we drove into the city to meet some more peeps. Saw an awful play, but thankfully it was free. I honestly have no good things to say about the play except I liked the lead girls skirt. The rest was painful and I felt fidgety the whole time.
We went to the Pancake Manor after that, which was nice. I ALMOST bought an alcoholic beverage (as I didn't have to drive home) but decided against it. Not sure why. The salad that I had was awesome though! And the company of course.
Mel drove me home which was lovely of her.
I am sunburnt and it hurts. :)
Today's Video: WANTED trailer. The effects look awesome, and I will see any movie with James McAvoy in it as he is rather talented.

The only thing I don't like is at the end. The voice over says 'what will you choose?' OBVIOUSLY James' character chooses the life of assassin. He's all bad ass in the trailer shooting guns! DUH!
