Title: The Price of Fame
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Rachel Berry
Spoilers: 2x01
Summary: A mostly unedited, very short reflection post-Sunshine leaving for Vocal Adrenaline.
When she learns Sunshine will be transferring to Carmel to join Vocal Adrenaline, her first instinct is to sing.
This is what it's like, being Rachel Berry, where Broadway spotlights and the paparazzi haunt her dreams like nothing but distant fantasies she so desperately wants to make true. It is the only thing she yearns for more than popularity (and popularity is part of the package deal).
It's such a part of her, performing, that the idea of someone new, someone better, coming along and stealing the stardom she's worked so hard for is unfathomable. So she plots. And it never ends well for her.
(In hindsight, sending Sunshine to a crackhouse was not her smartest idea; it would have been her fault-partially, at the very least-had she gotten killed, and Rachel simply couldn't have that on her conscious. Or on her record. Directors aren't likely to take kindly to felon ingenues to off their competition, should that tendency flare up again.)
This time, while her actions may have kept herself in the spotlight, they have also made it harder for her to win.
She's not so sure which one she'd prefer.
