pretty pretty manga

I realized that Inariya Fusanosuke, the artist of the last novel I wrote about, was the artist of the (licensed?) manga Hyakujitsu no bara (Maiden Rose). It's a beautiful manga set in a parallel world at war that does a lot of things I love. I don't quite understand the need for the kind of relationship between the uke and the seme (besides the obvious moe factor), but tried to ignore the seeming lack of basis because I actually love that kind of relationship (the master/servant reversal of balance of power in bed kind of thing). Add the whole duty before the heart's desire, uniforms, and scenes with billowing Japanese clothing and flower petals...

I didn't mean to babble about the manga so much. I brought the manga up because I accidentally found a short interview of the artist regarding Maiden Rose and wanted to mention a couple of things she said. I laughed when she said that she created the story based on moe (gee, not obvious at all?), and thus the storyboards and the actual drawing of the pictures was tough. Her favorite character is Taki, calling him a tsundere character...which I suppose he is, but I didn't see it when I read the manga. Maybe because I'm too used to tsundere characters tending to be...less than useful, and Taki certainly worked hard. When asked what part(s) of the body besides the lips she liked to see kissed, she replied that she liked fingers or the palm of the hand. I am so with her on that point! Her ending comments to readers makes me wonder if she'll do any more volumes of manga....I hope she does. In the meantime, I'm kind of wanting to buy novels she illustrates just to see more of her art...I've had bad experiences buying novels motivated mostly by the art, but it seems I'll never really learn my lesson. :P

Hm, looking around the Oakla website, they have short interviews of a lot of artists, including Minase Misara regarding Uso to Kiss and Empty Heart. Unfortunately the interviewer asked about Ryuuta and his burakon and whether he was modeled after someone. Minase-sensei replied that there wasn't a model. He's a tad bit of a narcissist who knows he's good looking and finds his younger brother, very similar to him, incredibly adorable. Minase-sensei didn't do any special studies for her color illustrations and mainly used Photoshop.
