Day One Pt. 1

My alarm clock woke me up at 7:15AM. (Any earlier and my roomates would have shot me!) I got ready in light-speed, practically floated to the Sheraton, made it there by 8:20AM, and promptly met a ton of incredible fangirls in the line for the Mary McDonnell panel. I got really great hello hugs from averita, dashakay, and icedteainthebag. I met some great gals from the rememberlauradc group that weren't already on my friends list: coffeesuperhero, leiascully, meryl_edan, and probably more that I'm not remembering at the moment. Sorry, blame it on the flail. ;)

The nearly two hour wait passed very quickly, probably because we were all talking and laughing. After some line shifting (we had apparently formed the line at the wrong door) and some more waiting, we were let into the room! There were two sections, a left and a right. I was sitting on the right, second row, ISLE. AWESOME SEAT, Y/Y? And come to find out, claireterm from our rememberlauradc group was sitting next to me.

DCTV played for a while. Memorable bumper: the Kate Vernon/Kate Mulgrew celebrity throwdown. Vernon totally should have won! :P There was a Mary McDonnell celebrity throwdown with someone, but I was honestly just paying attention to the Mary parts. ;) AND there was a "things Edward James Olmos has invented" bumper that was HILARIOUS.

And then... MARY! With Michael Hogan surprise! My pics for this panel were crappy because they requested no flash photography. BUT I have all but the last 5 minutes of the panel on INCREDIBLE quality video. YAY.

"Hi, fangirls. Aren't I so wonderful?"

IDK what's she's saying. I'm sure it's awesome. Hogan is clearly into it.

Mary was charming, and very gracious/surprised that were were up at 10AM just to see her (and not Shatner/Nemoy, which was happening at the same time). Mary, if only you knew! The Eurogirls were there at like 6AM to be first in line, and I was there at like 8:15 AM. We love you oodles. She tried to get EJO on the phone, but he didn't answer, so we all left him a really loud voicemail screaming "SO SAY WE ALL!"

At one point during the panel the people outside the ballroom waiting in line for the next panel were getting really loud and Mary went FIERCE. She got up, went to the door, told them they needed to be quiet, and came back to her seat all smiley. Hogan was like, "We've got people that can do that" but clearly Mary is so awesome she doesn't need people, she can handle crowd control all by herself. And then later her staff was getting loud behind the curtains, and she got up to shush them too. AWESOME.

As soon as the Mary/Michael panel was over, I practically ran to the Mariott and got in the line for the first SGA panel of the weekend. It was supposed to be Paul McGillion and Joe Flanigan, but Joe had flight problems so he wasn't there until the next day. Needless to say, I was THRILLED that it turned into the Paul McGillion show! *cuddles him tight*

He was SOOOOO charming. GAH, I love him so much. He flirted with all of the girls that got up to ask him questions (with that lovely Scottish accent, of course). He told lots of funny stories, and I was crushed when my camcorder died after about 3 minutes! So I only have a few short video clips of him that were taken with my camera. Hopefully someone will post the entire panel on YouTube.

He told this HILARIOUS story about telling his parents when he got the Stargate gig. His dad thought he meant Star TREK, and couldn't wrap his head around it being StarGATE. And his dad was like, "It's Star TREK, don't argue with me. I know." He did such cute Scottish impressions of his folks. And then he was actually in the Star Trek reboot movie, so his dad was finally right. ;) Sad that I didn't get that part on tape, but I did get these: (Please ignore my girlish giggling!)

He offered his own personal, signed copy of the Atlantis series finale script to the lucky winner/correct guesser of a trivia question he asked. I was soooo upset, because the episode he asked the question about was one I had watched about a week ago. But the question was so random I was like, "Huuuuuh?" Like what was the guy he performed surgery on in the episode's name, or something. Some lucky girl got it correct, and he ushered her onstage. AND he told her he was going to get the rest of the Altlanis stars to sign it for her this weekend. Lucky.

Because sooooo much happened on day one, I'm splitting it into two parts. Second part will include the Buffy panel, the Stargate SG-1 panel, the second Battlestar Galactica panel of the day, and the rememberlauradc party that night.
