My wheelchair makes me invisibleI can relate to so many of these incidents. Like how Josh and I will go to the grocery store and I'll hand over the cash to the clerk only to have him/her give the change back to Josh. Or going to a restaurant and having the waiter ask whoever I'm with what I'd like. Concerts are also frequently a big issue. I never harass ppl about parking in disabled parking spots though, since not every looks disabled (it even happens to me sometimes and it's no fun). And don't get me started on bathrooms. This weekend, Helene had to help me transfer in the washroom of a newly-renovated cafe. Strange how if a restaurant has no bathroom, it's a health and safety issue, but if that bathroom isn't accessible, we're expected just to "hold it."
Is sex for the disabled the last taboo?I know it's an important issue, but seriously, the headline? Right up there with: "Should we really allow women to vote?"
A wheelchair or nothingAnother fine example of the mismanagement of mobility aid funding in Ontario (complete with numerous comments by strangers who think they are experts in deeming who is "really" disabled or not).
