I'm by no means an expert, but I understand there was recently an incident where the administrator of a huge message board was deemed to be accoutable for some of its content, even though there were thousands of users.

It's my belief that some of all of this has come about as a result of that precident. That doesn't make it any less foul or hypocritical, but there you have it.

Unfortunately, the climate is shifting against those who want to be free to express themselves on the internet, and it's not only the users who suffer, but the unfortunate person who hosts them, and doesn't even know it's there. There have been no LAWS made, but if Judges are making judgments like that, it's almost as bad.

On the other hand, there are many ways that LJ could have chosen to protect themselves, including issuing a warning and ensuring the artists deleted the offending material. It didn't have to be a summary deletion. And they're setting themselves up for far worse by supporting the right of pro-ana communities to exist.

In other words, they're complete asshats. But there is a tiny bit of method to their madness. Just not enough.
