It occurs to me that while SixApart can technically (and legally) choose to censor its users- it does, after all, own this product- it would be remiss if it went as far as forbidding its users from providing links to their works. It is less roundabout, perhaps, to simply host images and fics on an alternate site than to transfer wholesale the ( Read more... )

Actually, somewhere buried in all those comments on lj_biz they said it doesn't matter where the actual material resides, they are responsible for the link. So no, that doesn't work. I can find you the actual comment, but I don't want to wade through there. Take my word for it OK?

Yes I was curious on this too, and asked them whether links were okay (not received an answer). If they are okay, it's surely a great compromise.

But if they aren't okay, then that's a whole new worry, as it's not just fanfiction artists posting their work who might be linking - there might be all sorts of circumstances where people might post a link to some site, not realising they are at risk of breaking the TOS (indeed, during this controversy several people have offered links to the image in question, purely for informative purposes of people who are curious to see what the fuss is about).

If linking to possibly-obscene-content is also a ban-without-warning offence, LJ really need to state that explicitly...
