Congratulations on finishing your series with such an interesting take on John and Sherlock's ultimate path to happiness. It was good to see Sherlock learn that love was not a zero sum game and that he didn't have to be in competition with Irene or anyone else John cared about. John loves different people in different ways, but the fact that his relationship with Sherlock is platonic doesn't diminish its importance to either of them. I'm very happy for them both ( ... )

Thank you for making your way through the series - that's a serious time commitment! And I'm so happy you're pleased for both John and Sherlock, as I wanted the title's promise of a happy ending to feel earned; John has needs that Sherlock is willing to consolidate, and neither is wrong.

Aside from the lovely lighthouse line, Mary in canon never interested me very much; Irene Adler was always the woman to me. I'd very much wanted to have an artist, a fellow musician, play a leading role in a Sherlock story, and in Martin Freeman's John Watson, I saw for the first time a Watson who could match the Adler in my head (though I am very fond of Godfrey Norton as well), which was why I wrote them together in an earlier story, which became useful here, as Irene had a prior claim to John that Sherlock couldn't deny. Additionally, I wanted to signal that I wasn't going to have the woman in John's life (who usually is Mary) follow one of the familiar fandom plotlines of (1) her dying off to allow J&S to reunite, (2) J throwing her over for S ( ... )

I've read and enjoyed stories from all of these categories, but wanted to try something different with mine.

Hee! I'm so glad you decided to do your own thing, it's lovely! :)

Though I am working on a post-Reichenbach story that adheres more to BBC canon, so Mary might show up there and snap John up. Hmmm. Much to consider!

Thank you again for your kind words!

How awesome! You are just on fire lately! <3 Whatever winds up happening I'm sure it will be a fascinating story; you are so good at making each character feel real. And whatever happens on the romantic side, adventure and friendship are always exciting! Yay :) Thanks so much for writing!

Well, thanks to you, I thought more about Mary and came up with a take on who she might be and how I can introduce her into the story! And thank you for the very nice words!
