Hi, everybody!

The unutterably lovely oxoniensis bestowed another round of the Fall Fandom Free-for-All on fandom, and I wanted to write something for her. I decided on her To the Ends of the Earth request: Charles Summers/Edmund Talbot - I'd love to see an AU of the ending (on the boat - being vague, in case anyone is thinking of reading the books/ ( Read more... )

This is so, so gorgeous! And full of Charles' love and his own sad sense of not being worthy of Edmund, not appreciating his own wonderful strength of character.

I love the idea of Edmund reading to Charles as they're recuperating, and Charles' love of what the scars on Edmund's face mean. And Charles finally taking his place at Edmund's side as a brother. This feels utterly, perfectly in keeping with the series.

If he was to be like Edmund, there could be no more accommodation for fear.

The best sort of love, where it makes one a better person.

Thank you so much for this absolutely wonderful gift! ♥♥♥

Oh Charles... *pats him gently* Poor boy. Now I desperately want to see him find a job on board a ship with a gorgeous young man who thinks he's just the best thing ever! This is such a lovely little fic - wistful and sad.

Oh! That could totally happen, couldn't it? I don't suppose you'd like to write that for me? Perhaps for Yuletide?

Sorry, honey, I'm afraid I can't. My NaNo project looks as though it's going to end up dragging on well past the end of November and so I'm not thinking about any more writing projects beyond that.

(Incidentally, is 'Yuletide' a challenge comm, or did you just mean it as a word for winter holidays? Because if it's the latter then that's such a lovely Victorian-type word that I've not heard used that way in ages!)

Don't worry about it - your words sparked a desire for that fic, and I realized you would do a lovely job with it, that's all. I totally understand that you're swamped!

Yuletide is a big annual challenge that comes around at the end of each year. It's an anonymous exchange challenge - all fics are posted anonymously on Christmas Day and then authors' names are revealed on New Year's Day. Each fic must be at least 1000 words. The trick is that only "small fandoms" (those having no more than a set number of existing fics somewhere on the internet) are eligible to be requested and written in. So the nominations end in a few hours - I've nominated To the Ends of the Earth, Cabin Pressure, and Wonder Boys to be eligible for this year's challenge (each person can only nominate three fandoms). The next stage is requests (each person can request four fandoms). I'm most likely going to request To the Ends of the Earth fic featuring Edmund; Doctrine of Labyrinths fic featuring Mildmay and Cardenio; Cabin Pressure fic featuring Martin ( ... )
