And now for something more uplifting.

Pokemon.

I glutted myself on episodes this weekend, and got through Master Quest. I love that the whole competition was overlaid atop an emotional journey for Ash as well. His friendship/enmity/rivalry with Gary was so 2 dimensional before this. They really did a beautiful job of developing it, and making it more in the shades of grey complex area. I wish we'd seen more of them being friends before they got too competitive with each other, because I really still don't understand completely why Ash wants so much to be friends with such a jerk. Gary has his moments where he acts more mature than Ash, especially where his temper and winning/losing is concerned, but then again, Ash has his moments where he is way more mature than Gary, like his views on Pokemon and friendship. And Gary is soooooo annoying at times. These latest episodes made it more clear that he was acting like a jerk towards Ash because of his insecurities, but all the same, I still don't have any deep rooted admiration for him. I did think it was fitting that Ash beat him in the Silver Conference, though. And I thought it was very interesting that Gary decided to go down a different path ending their rivalry. I wonder if it was easier for him to end that rivalry that way than to admit that Ash was better. Those moon lit scenes where they explore their friendship as it was, and as it is were very heartwarming. :)
I didn't think it was fair that Harrison's Blazekin beat Ash, but it was a lot more satisfying than his loss at the Indigo League!

So, I started on Pokemon Advanced, and it is great!
I LOVED that Ash started over with just his Pikachu, and that they got to journey a bit ALONE for a while. I hated that Misty butted in right at the first of the first season, and that Ash didn't get to experience any of his journey by himself. So, it was cool to see him take that opportunity, and enjoy himself with it. May...MAY! I love May! :D I think it is especially fitting that her bike got destroyed and she didn't CARE. Ha ha ha! Or at least, she cared more about Ash and Pikachu than she did about the bike. :) It is a nice refreshing change from Geriados!Misty. Hee hee hee. Of course, I was never a Misty fan anyway, but I love that Ash took on May and is guiding her and teaching her to love Pokemon, even if he doesn't know it yet. It's so cute. I just like May way better, even if she's a bit of a contradiction. Hee hee.
When will Team Rocket ever give up on capturing Pikachu? I often wondered whether or not Giovanni even WANTED it, or if they just THINK he does, but when they mentioned it on the phone to him he didn't say one way or another, so maybe he DOES want it. I actually find them quite amusing, and hope they don't give up, but there's something about seeing Ash get kicked around that makes my heart hurt. When he and Pikachu got blasted and they both fell down prone in the dirt, my mother bear instinct kicked in or something. It was awful, and I was traumatized. But, I think I'm more emotionally attached to Ash than the average fan. I want him to WIN. It gives me such pleasure to see him come out on top. That's why I didn't particularly care for Misty, because she was ALWAYS putting him down. It wouldn't kill her to build him up a time or two, but she couldn't ever manage it. Now, Max, he is annoying, and I was surprised that Ash agreed so readily for him to come along. I hope he doesn't end up pounding him. But, he could always have Pikachu shock him...hee hee.
I'm excited to see them capture their first Pokemon, and all the new ones :)
I'm not too crazy about the new clothes, but I guess I'll get used to them after a while. I dread when I get caught up and have to get used to the new voice actors. :S
