First impressions of the P4 anime are good. I adored how it retained a lot of the stylistic elements of the game (although this did contribute to a feeling of weird familiarity with it all). It's not often that I watch anime adaptations of games, and I think this is the first one featuring a game I have actually played beforehand? NOT THAT I COMPLETED IT BUT WHATEVER.
I suppose because I played it with the voices dubbed (and I maintain a very good job was done with it), it was quite strange at first to hear the original Japanese voices, but that faded quickly (and the Junes theme is still SUPER ANNOYING). SO PLEASED that it had the music from the game.
There's also something off about the pace/scene changes, but whether or not that comes from the fact it's a game adaptation I'm not sure. Perhaps this will begin to feel more natural as the anime progresses, or perhaps it's a handicap that comes as part of trying to preserve to atmosphere of the game as much as possible. In terms of actual atmospheric tension, though, there wasn't much of that to be had (probably because in the game it is slow going but here enough needed to be introduced in order to hook anime-only viewers).
YOSUKE IS SUCH A CUTIE.
AND TEDDY.
So I'm definitely going to carry on watching this one.
