I meant to post before Christmas. REALLY LATE FESTIVE WISHES, HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GOOD TIME.
It feels like it's been months since I last posted (of course, it hasn't). I've suffered through a cold (that might have been flu), worked days and evenings and a very long day on Christmas Eve, had no time to keep up with LJ posts and comments (sorry for that), celebrated my fifth year with the boyfriend (still as close to being a perfect fit as is possible), SURVIVED CHRISTMAS and then spent far too much money on buying clothes that I didn't need but REALLY REALLY WANTED. I had a good Christmas this year, even if it took until about an hour before midnight on Christmas Eve for me to start feeling even remotely festive (and I guess that's what working right up until the day does to people). I got a lot of thoughtful and perfect presents. LOTS OF BOOKS.
I spent most of Christmas Day and Boxing Day reading
A Companion to Wolves (this was EVERYTHING I WANTED... I have a definite weak spot for animal companion/bonding stories and this one was just MADE for me...violent and explicit and compelling). ALSO THERE ARE GOING TO BE TWO SEQUELS. Because OVER-EXCITED CAPSLOCKING does not give an accurate reflection of what the novel is like, I'll keep it short and link to
this review (because it's balanced in a way that I'm incapable of being) and
this one (because I agree with the criticism of the ending but also agree that it's a minor flaw). It's not a long book, and I found it an engrossing read, so if you have time for it and think you might enjoy an intelligent take on the human-animal bonding trope, then try it?
SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY ON CLOTHES TODAY.
I don't quite regret it (because this is the reward for spending ALL OF DECEMBER WORKING).
I also started reading
Kuroko no Basket during the time I spent in Bristol (it's a basketball manga). I've read most of the first volume and so far, it's been enjoyable although too early to say much more about it.
I have to mention my other (REALLY NOT THAT GOOD) sports manga love.
Light Wing is a football manga (and totally NOT the GK substitute I had been pining for when I started reading it) and not only is it PAINFULLY SHOUNEN AND JUST PLAIN BAD it is also probably going to get cancelled but it makes me laugh and sometimes that's the only thing I need (that and I ship Rihito/Oikawa). I guess it's a guilty pleasure. MORE ON THIS LATER because I am sure I'll want to post about it/laugh at it.
There are raws for 15: Meisetsu (THE RUGBY MANGA THAT YOU SHOULD ALL BE READING)
here.
If you're reading Aitsu no Daihonmei, join the
daihonmei LJ community for the scanlations because this is now the only location for future releases (the scanlator does not want it posted on manga aggregate sites).
I want to watch more Oofuri.
THIS POST IS DISINTEGRATING.
